Even the young have memory lapses: remember that.

I often find myself looking for the same thing over and over, or I may be in mid-sentence and a word eludes me. I can't necessarily attribute this to my aging brain, because I know many younger people who have the same issues.
Loretta La Roche from Milford Daily News has this to say. Most of what passes through our brains doesn't need to be remembered any longer than necessary. The brain knows how to prioritize and discard. Who really wants to remember all the trivia that it takes to go through the day?
Remembering the important things in life can be made better by a balanced lifestyle. If you are not sleeping well, eating poorly, getting little exercise or stressed to the max, you can count on having memory slippage.
Also using e-mails, Blackberries and Post-it Notes as aides can make for a flabby memory. I remember having to remember long-winded poems by Longfellow and plays by Shakespeare. I'm not quite sure if that still exists.
All in all, there is good news for becoming more memory efficient. A brain that is exercised by a diversity of experiences has a better chance of staying more youthful.
So get out the crossword puzzles, learn how to speak a new language or play a musical instrument.
Even dancing is supposed to "wow" the brain. I think engaging with an exciting partner while doing a seductive tango is where I'm headed.
Now that's going to make for some great memories!
