Are you a good writer?

Good writing
Signature Tune

What makes a good writer? are you one? or do you think you are not one?

Well, the following may come as news to you.

"I'm not a good writer"

Does it?

So, for bloggers, come the following tips for writing.

Write a summary -Use the Thesaurus - Write ideas down -Record it - Edit it -Don't edit it too much -Use Headlines - Use Paragraphs -Size Matters -Invite Comments - A final thought -

Don't ever say you're a bad writer

From Life in the Country - the author of this article comes the cryptic message:

Writing is about communicating ideas and connecting with people through words. If you're on my blog roll, I think you're a good writer. Take the compliment with grace - say thank you, don't try to tell me my opinion is incorrect.

(animating, appealing, arousing, arresting, astonishing, bracing, breathtaking, dangerous, dramatic, electrifying, exhilarant, eye-popping, far out, fine, flashy, groovy, hair-raising, heady, hectic, impressive, interesting, intoxicating, intriguing, lively, mind-blowing, moving, neat, overpowering, overwhelming, provocative, racy, rip-roaring, rousing, sensational, spine-tingling, stimulating, stirring, thrilling, titillating, wild, zestful)

Do go to the link next to the heading, which will fill you in with all of the detail you wish to know.

The type of blogging I do does not allow me to indulge myself to such a degree but we're all different and well may we choose the way we go about things and if some of this does not suit your blogging style the tips may stand you in good stead elsewhere.

Many of us have the need for writing and organisation skills in other things we do.

I found life in the country an engaging name enticing me by thoughts of its lifestyle. All bloggers should be able to derive some benefit by seeing what is said in the Country.

The question is, do you need to be a good writer to be a good blogger????

It occurs to me that a lot of what we define as good blogging skills is merely an extension of advertising and using "tricks" to entice people onto your page for longer. Yes you need to say something interesting to keep em coming back but does this mean you need to be a good writer???? Or can you write bollocks and use all the "tricks" and become a successful blogger?

Just where my mind is at on a lazy Sunday......

Louie,

What you say is in keeping with the Link and I do agree with much of what you say, but I think you have missed what the author had in mind.

His work was extremely well written. One can learn much from it.

My view is similar to Louie's -- I think a good blogger does not necessarily equate to being a good writer. There are too many subjective factors to what constitutes a good blog/blogger.

The suggestions from the link are however interesting, and like you said may be applied elsewhere

Yes, I see where Louie is coming from and have been thinking that myself. Being a good writer and sucessful blogger might be two separate things. Of course, it does depend on what you define sucess as being, it could be making money, hit rates or a regular audience.

The article that you attached is excellent advice, katyzzz and I know we're going a little off its tangent with these thoughts, but it is good to discuss them.

Lara,

I think you are quite correct, a good blogger doesn't equate to being a good writer, but in deference to the writer of the article he was talking about writing for blogging, specifically.

Good to see you and have your view.

Tracy,

What you say is very true. But the article was about BLOGGING and was a very good one.

I'm always open to discussion and in fact by the way I presented the post I was hoping to spike a little something.

Jump in everyone, and have your say.

I do see writing and blogging as linked but decidedly separate.

oh katyzzzzzz, I was only throwing the question into the ring, I didnt mean to say the article wasn't good, i was simply questioning things,,,as you do on a Sunday......

I found the article valuable, the answer is simple. A good writer will write a good blog but a bad writer may write a good blog and I don't think it matters, bloggers are here to entertain .......we should all take ourselves with a grain of salt. Blogging is fun, writing is fun.....bloggers write, writers blog... the similarity ends there me feels....happy to be wrong and on the wrong side of three beers......

Enjoy everyone.....

Louie, darling,

I did not mean to infer that you were wrong. And I won't carry on.

All views are welcome, I just wanted to defend my source as he did such a good job, like I said, the way I set up the post was to bring a spike into the responses.

I'd really like to see a lot more spikes and you are right, interlinked but certainly not married and I don't think the author was trying to establish anything that wasn't related to blogging.

Always love to have your views, you little spiker you. And pretty too, a bit like myself, similar ages of course.

Do call again, there's always something there to have a go at. You're welcome and your views are just fine. Almost as good as mine. Should I now add a haha. Not too good at blogspeak.

This has been an excellent conversation about blogging as well as writing. I'm going to try and do a few of the ideas that the article talked about.
