What is Wi-fi?
October 18th 2007 03:26
Wi-fi stands for Wireless Fidelity. It allows for wireless Internet connection through a wireless router.
It simply means broadband without the wires.
The advantage of small, portable devices like laptops is that they can be used anywhere around the house, but if you want to access the internet on them too you'll need a Wi-Fi transmitter.
Getting connected is easy. All you need is a mobile internet card or a wireless broadband modem.
The good
HSDPA-ready for imminent network upgrade
Compatible with new ExpressCard notebooks and older PC Card models
Highly competitive pricing
The bad:Extra charge for using Telstra GSM when 3G signal is too weak
The bottomline:3's NetConnect mobile broadband card combines HSDPA speeds, compatibility with ExpessCard and PC Card laptop slots and exceptional pricing plans into a magic mobility mix.
Editors' rating:9/10
Users' rating:7.6/10
Note there that the users' rating is not high and the system DOES Cost.
I'm not sure what it covers but the amount shown is $399
But it does look good if that is any consolation.
Reports from users would be greatly appreciated

Interesting article about the Wi-Fi card, it is widely used around here and there is even Wireless-Broadband connectors that doesn't need to connect to a 3G phone available in the market around here these days, which is fun here but not every area supports it yet.
