Which sex do you think handles stress better?

male female brain stress hippocampus

Sandra Witelson has spent much of her career studying the relationship between brain structure and function, and the differences in these between men and women. She says in animals, it has been shown that in acute stress situations, the male brain, in the hippocampus, which is in the middle of the brain and is crucial for new learning and memory, sprouts more synapses and dendrites, which facilitate learning. In contrast, there is a decrease in the amount of sprouting of these interconnections among neurons in a female during periods of acute stress. It turns out that chronic stress may be biologically responded to more adaptively in the female than the male brain. What do you think? What does your experience with stress in the workplace and at home tell you about gender differences?

I read somewhere that women fared better than men during the London Blitz.

what a great question boy are you a brain on brains i dont even know how to respond to that question its got my mind running at a hundred miles an hour

cos i think men and women are intrinsically diffferent its why women have vaginas and men have penises sometimes all this equality shit does my head in if were so equal why dont we both have similar genitalia

but ive got my own mental issues to deal with but i will eventually get back to you with a response to your question but its done my head in

That may will be James, but then again, that may well not be.

It sounds like comparing apples to oranges to me, we need both approaches, which so many nowadays seem loathe to agree.

Vive la difference, and I love men.

Simon, I'm so sorry I did your head in, I agree with a lot of what you say, but the essential differences in the genitalia are meant mainly for one thing, but this article shows that there are important brain differences, and we shall discover more, I wouldn't want to be a man, nor would I like men to be women.

Now thereby hangs a tail, as the old bard would say.
