katyzzz blogging
Signature Tune

Well it wasn't long before I managed to be offered my first domain, as usual I was in a rush to get going.

I knew I wanted to blog about computer art and computer literacy for the elderly and Alzheimer's disease. I wanted a domain with the name katyzzz in it. But as this was my 'name' on Orble, that was not permitted so I really needed a name revolving around computer art which I was doing with MS Paint and wanted to encourage others to do the same, and the brain and health and and and, well, you can imagine just how long that was going to be so I made my brilliant choice, mspaintart.com.

I could see those very large Microsoft $$$s just rushing to my site, clever little me.

Well, things did not exactly turn out that way and I watched patiently as the few cents trickled in.

It was just a matter of time I thought.

Oh, how very wrong one can be.

So I gave a big sigh and try as hard as I might I found there were very few who would actually confess just how much or how little their adcents were.

By now I thought it was time I extended my horizons and started to blog about blogging. They beat their silent way to my blog, everyone wanted to know how they could get ahead with their blogging and that, I'm afraid to say, included me.

Of course I didn't mind working for free for the elderly or even some other bloggers but I did not like the idea of working for free for advertisers all the time waiting for them to 'click' me.

I feel sure that by that stage I did have a lot of company from others not making much either but you would think it was a matter of top security as most were very secretive, even those who declared rather too often that they were not just doing it for the money. They love to write, you see. That was not my ambition in life and if it were I'd just go ahead and do it.

By some strange coincidence, I came across Paint.NET and it certainly won me.

Although it too was limited in its applications and some things did not work, as they didn't with MS Paint, either, their colour blending was just so much better and they had a couple of novel features which I fell in love with. Silly me.

I really meant to look up some old posts to effectively continue with this tale, but as that could now possibly cause me to lose what I have written here, I'm afraid that will have to wait until next time when I shall remember to look up the previous posts first, unless I forget, of course.

So, you have one little piece of computer art here, by reason of my signature but please stand by for the next UNexciting bit of history related to my blog.

Where did you hear about blogging, incidentally?

Katyzzz - I think for all of us using blogging to make $$ is a bit of a fairy tale, and I feel your frustration. Now that with a busy retail job I have even less time to spend online and it's really hurting the traffic.

I think I started blogging when it started during the .com era. Well, I happened to be in the industry I guess. But it all started with a bit of diary entries on my travels and blogging was the only way to avoid having to mass email everyone.

My traffic is hurting too, Amy and I have kept up the pace, especially since it plummeted by half and the returns are in exponential decay.

I think I should at least expect to cover costs but my games are all but over.

I've enjoyed your blogs and it must be very hard with a full-time job.

I expect to be getting busier as time goes on and I simply won't have the time.

I think blogging for some is entirely different than blogging for me. It's been an interesting experience but I have found some of it quite disgusting, how anyone could be proud of expressing themselves that way is beyond me.

But I'm doing some summing up to draw to a conclusion a body of work. Besides there are many things there that interest me and revision time is here.

Thanks for your comments and telling us of your blogging experience, I'm sure it will all lead somewhere but not necessarily through blogging.

Don't work too hard, life is too short, but I guess with a partner studying you find yourself left to your own devices at times.

Hi katyzzz,

I heard about blogging on the grapevine a few years ago, and more specific than that I can not be. Being past the age where technology and technological fashion are instinctive interests, I ignored it. Then a respected friend (and fellow writer) told me more about blogging, and how it was getting big, and how it could work in certain ways for me.

And so I finally gave it a try, and I'm smitten!

Blogging today is about many things. You're right that it's not just about writing (although it is more about wrting than many bloggists understand ). But the boundaries between blogs and web pages these days are often blurred and regularly overlap. The importance of the blogosphere in terms of business and marketing is growing quickly.

I've been blogging now for almost two months, and I'm not afraid to admit here and now, at the risk of attracting the envy of many, that I have earned, through Adsense, the amazing total so far of US$0.56.

I'm not planning to retire any time soon.

Regards and happy blogging,
Chris

Chris, that's a lovely long comment you've given me and thanks for the info, you really will be put aside by many now as having the "tall poppy" syndrome. And, you're right, you'll be around for a long time, waiting until adsense's lay-by plan yields the anticipated $100.

You'll be the envy of many.

There may even be a few who'll read your blog. Well done.

Oh, Raven, how cruel, how could you and you must have it rolling in, provided your readers have a mobile phone, of course, not sure just how little (much) the mere click does.

and no, this is not reality TV, I did think a man as intelligent as yourself would know that, although from time to time you have shown some preference for folks with their clothes off, whereas my nudes are making a social statement, oh, well, yes, I guess you could call the others social statement makers, too, but low class ones, even if they are in the movies.

Hey Katyzzz

I am also over blogging. Seriously over it. It feels like a drain on resources, and there is no money to be made here - where did any of us get that idea?

I think of it as a way of keeping the few people who actually give a shit about what I'm doing in my writing career, up to speed. But I am contemplating leaving Orble and just blogging occasionally on my website.

I think Orble is great for a sense of community - if that's some comfort, continue. Traffic stats are fickle, and I've noticed that a lot of crap gets a lot of traffic and some of the better posts remain unacknowledged.

For those of you that have made any money blogging, congratulations. So far, it's cost me money and my precious time, but when it makes your readership go wow, it's worth it.

Well, sort of . . . in an obtuse way.

My internet bill far exceeds anything that I've made with adsense, but I don't care. I blog because it lets me express myself and give my opinions on stuff that interests me. Which is usually pretty light and fluffy - people don't necessarily want to be informed so much as entertained, I've discovered.

The net is about chill time for many, and high-brow stuff is too demanding of them. This could have something to do with the 'good' posts being overshadowed by the 'crap' posts in terms of traffic, as Jo pointed out.

It doesn't matter if you make any money, as long as you have readers, and katyzzz, you do. So don't leave orble, I enjoy your posts and I know many others do as well. Just my $0.02

Hi there,

I think most of us didn't realise how tricky the friendship between Orble and Adsense is. Unlike Blogger, Orble don't allow you to easily add meta tags to your pages, which means you can't add your blog to a blog-list, therefore unenabling you to get higher traffic.

I'm extremely grateful to Orble, having www.gigsnreviews.com gives me a purpose and a sense of duty to the community. I get a thrill everytime I earn a few dollars.

Keep on blogging!
Jacqui

And we thought we learned to count when we went to school.

Jo, how very true, just goes to show what modern society has become, but I guess many have never even heard of a blog.

Incidentally you write very well, I just wish there was a site where bad language and poor expression of NOTHING was not encouraged or in fact deleted.

If I were the mother of a young or teenage family I would not allow access to this site.

I wonder what I'm doing here. But I'll hang on for a while, but agree there is no money to be made.

It was lovely to hear from you.

Opto, it's very generous of you to come and see me. Hope your 'earnings' pick up. It really bugs me to think people have to get to $100 to collect, imagine how much ends up in Google's coffers.

I've learned to play the game to collect, but it's not worth the effort, I'll probably be around for a while then I'll just gradually fade away rather than announce my departure with a grand Clarion.

Good to see you.

Don't cry for me Dianna G, I'll be here for a while yet, you blog because you just love to write and it shows.

Don't grow up too fast, there is a whole world to explore out there.

I'd really miss your little amethyst glow.

Raven, like WOW your readers grow, what if, like mine, they suddenly, inexplicably, IMPLODE?

All that hard work for nothing. While it suits me I'll be around for a while, trying to increase my stats. ( back to where they were)

Just the 0.02 cents is a wonderful contribution, it must have cost you the whole of your adsense earnings.

You are so right about entertainment, and I can understand that, it's just that I don't find those posts entertaining at all.

They certainly would not qualify for any decent TV show.

But your conclusions are correct and I'm glad you're enjoying what you're doing. That does make a difference.

Thanks for the visit.

Jacqui, I'm glad you get a thrill, my thrills are diminshing, incidentally I love your frangipani, but if it's thrills you want and thrills you get, that makes your efforts all worth while.

I've done a lot of blogging in the past two years, I think it is TIME I gave it a rest, but I'll be continuing with katyzzz blogging career until such time as it has fulfilled my purpose or TIME dictates otherwise, then I shall probably hang around for the occasional, if aloof, connections.

Continue to enjoy what you do, after all, life has to bring some rewards.
