Don't play the game:

Don't Play the Blame Game

If you blame yourself for your weight -- if you're depressed about it, or if your mood is fouler than a subway station in August -- then your first job is to refocus.

Start thinking about what you can do to change your size, how you can do it, why it's good for you, and what will make you succeed. Poker-faced confidence trumps negativity every time. It works for coaches, bosses, and parents -- and it will work for you in your role as waist manager. By stripping away negative emotions of guilt and shame, you'll make positive decisions about eating and you'll also strip away inches.

Keeping negative thoughts away may also help you avoid a leading killer: stroke. Learn why.

More: Eating can be an emotional action -- and an addictive one, too. So one of the big questions is how do you turn irrational, emotional, and addictive actions into smart, rational, and good decisions? For starters, look for other things to fill the need that food is currently filling. Focus on the things that you're truly grateful for: your family, your friends, your career, or your passion for a favorite hobby.

Also, spend extra time with favorite family members and close friends. Research shows that social interaction increases oxytocin, a hormone that seems to decrease blood pressure and reduce the effects of stress. And diffusing stress will keep you from grabbing chewy, gooey, waist-killing snacks that later make you feel like a failure.

RIght on.

Remember - the old chestnut "I'll start tomorrow'?

Well here's another - "tomorrow never comes".

The secret is to do it incrementally - build up your exercise, diet and will power gradually.

Easier said than done I know - but the better you start to feel about yourself - the more likely you'll be to take the next step and the next . . . the benefits to your health, lifestyle, family and general outlook are worth it.

TImely post.
