New gym bike gives the brain a workout

The Neuractive Bike is a computer brain game and a stationary bicycle in one. The premise is that physical exercise can enhance brain work.

"When you do your cardio training at the same time, what you do is you pump more blood, more oxygen, more nutrients and your brain functions even better," said Dr. Stephane Bergeron, Brain Center America.

As you exercise, your mental skills are being tested. You click the mouse when you have the answer.

"People wanted to have better memory of names and faces. We have exercises for that. People were saying, 'You know, I've got a problem with I've got it on the tip of my tongue, but I can't see it.' We have an exercise designed especially to solve that kind of problem," said Bergeron.

It was a challenge even for a 34-year-old fitness instructor.

"I was doing the clock," said Georgina Chumaceiro, fitness instructor. "It was a little bit difficult because the clock was a little bit twisted, so you have to see it, then do your response."

The Neuroactive Bike is slowly being rolled out in health clubs, first on the East Coast. If you can't wait, the brain software is available now

This does seem to do a lot more for you than simply sitting there peddling, doesn't it?

Unfortunately for me the novelty of such things wears off rather quickly but it would be really good to be able to enhance your memory of faces, don't you think?

Name recall would also be useful, this is a failing of mine as I tend to concentrate on the person, rather than their name, I'm trying to kick that habit.

What would you like to improve about yourself this way? Do you remember?

Hey Katyzzz, good post, but when I am exercising I usually have my eyes squinted in pain or strain.

Poor, Lester, try taking it easy with yourself, this one is used with a low key, sedentary, slow pedalling bike exerciser. From that point of view it looked OK and would certainly relieve some of the boredom if nothing else, but it sounds good to me.
