So just what does the tongue do?
July 31st 2007 01:13
After seeing what the Chinese can do with their tongue I thought you might like a small reminder on just what the tongue does for you.
The tongue can be regarded as a digestive organ as it assists with chewing and swallowing.
There is a good blood supply to the tongue because it has a lot of work to do.
It works in close liaison with the nose as the senses of taste and smell work together to allow us to savour our food.
The tongue moves food around in the mouth as well as saliva.
The tongue helps us to swallow. When we swallow we stop breathing so food does not get into our lungs and the airway is blocked by closure of the epiglottis, a small flap attached to the back of our tongue.
Of course, eating is essential to life but the tongue has another very essential role in speaking.
The tongue is essential in helping us make sounds and what makes us special among creatures is the human ability to talk and communicate. The mobility of the tongue muscles helps in this process and the vocal cords (located in the airway) make man exclusively different from other animals.
I hope this is neither deficient or insufficient but gives you an understanding of the value of our tongues.

I suspect there are dirtier parts, think about it?
Stanley,
Lovely to see you, so glad you love the tongue and take all those piercings OUT, just extra spots for bacteria to enter the body.
Lovely to see you, as I just said, tongue and all.
