Too busy to think?

December 2nd 2007 09:22
Too busy to think?
Can't think - too busy.

We need to be able to think, create and remember. But so many gadgets now exist and the need to use them, that we really are getting too busy to think.

The demands of productivity and efficiency chop away at our time leaving us without much quality of thought.

Even academics are not allowed the time for the deep thought that is required for their work.

Universities are becoming like factory lines, but the brain needs extended reflective moments and hours to creatively work on new ideas.

We need to be able to come up with that 'eureka moment' which Isaac Newton did when he sat beneath his tree pondering on gravity.

Newton's states of relaxation and 'not doing anything' allowed him the insight for the next two centuries of Physics. That is something for you to ponder upon which you will not be able to do if you are just simply too busy.

So when can this reversal of our too busy states be expected to begin? I don't know the answer to that but I suggest it is something we may well wish to ponder upon.

Avoid that cry, I can't think, I'm too busy. Bosses and Universities please take note, but they are far too busy making money, aren't they? With Universities calling themselves businesses and acting with around about the same percentage of scruples.

And I'll leave that for you to ponder upon.

Sometimes I do my best thinking when I'm really busy - but then sometimes I don't. I guess we just keep demanding more and more of ourselves and each other and are left without room to move - let alone cogitate.

Maybe it will get to the point where we can't go on, and there will be a revolution. Must think of a suitable name for it... once things slow down.

Isn't that why we have natural bodily functions? It's time we must all take to slow down and attend to our business, albeit waste disposal, napping or sleep. Katyzzz, your mind takes you on some rather odd rails at times. Raven

I have trouble thinking too, do you think it is because I am too busy?

M, cogitate is the way to go, revolution - more likely because of the 'great divide' between wealthy and unwealthy - off go their heads, as the crowds cheer, you know, sort of primitive.

Great comment, thanks.

Raven, I don't spend much time on the toilet, Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

AND, yours don't?

Maybe I'm ahead of the crowd, I think TOO much.

Holly, darling, I think that is perhaps an 'unlikely' possibility, don't ask Raven, he's too cruel.
