What does Christmas mean to you?
December 15th 2006 01:01
I am Christian, so Christmas means the birth of Christ, and Churches and music and Christmas Carols, and sharing and caring and goodwill.
It means family gatherings, the Christmas tree and lights.
It means a Christmas feast and special foods and presents and pretty paper and tinsel and ribbons, and Santa Claus coming down the Chimney and a child's delight and Christmas stockings and greeting cards and green and red and white and...
Baby Jesus in the cradle.
But, what does Christmas mean to you?
Whatever your faith and customs I'd like to hear about them

That about sums up Christmas at our place, except for the BS about Santi-clause, we didn't perpetuate a lie, but did tell our children about St Nicolas who originated in central Europe where my family comes from and my children's bloodties originate...
Coca-cola made the rest up, but that is a culture too, isn't it...?
I hope you have a joyful, abundant, happy one too...

Thanks for that. Think of Santa Claus as a fable, kids love it and get over it, my son's first announcement at school was to tell the whole class there was no Santa Claus, he always was different.
They start to question it when they see so many different santas in stores and one then gives a spiel of the truth without destroing the experience.
That's one thing as a parent I handled quite well. In fact I handled a lot of things well, I'm aware of some major errors, wrongdoing, but think I deserve a little better from my children, all grown up now and scattered around the world. One's lot in life...as they say.
Thanks for being a great friend and have a wonderful Christmas.

The kaleidoscope is FANTASTIC!!!
Christmas to me means the family can get on for one day with no fighting - just laughter - and seafood.
Love & stuff

I love the satin and lace kaleidoscope, it is mesmerising. I feel like the more I look, the more I could fall into it and feel the colours and shapes.
Christmas means lots of things to me, more smiles from people on the streets, making sure I think of others (although I try to do that anyway), I love being able to spend more time with friends and family (life can be too fast), lights on houses and lovely food with family.
There is a friendlier vibe on the streets and I love that.
Without trying to sound like an altruistic nit-wit, I also donate/give food to charities etc as it can be a sad time for many people (including my own family after the death of my sister).
My husband also has time off work so that's fantastic too (he's a workaholic!).

I'm gong to print this beautiful image out, cut around the edges, spray it with glitter an use it as the Christmas Star on the Tree this year.. you see, it was all that time I had to relax until next year... that did it!
Wonderful... thanx

The one thing that I have found really different is getting used to a seafood lunch! We are used to the whole ham and turkey and beef for Christmas but it`s just too hot here - loving the beach Christmas - what a treat. Christmas also used to mean rainy days - its great to have the sun out, lighting up the day.
Just a day about family, about reflecting on the year and being thankful for what we have.
MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL!!!!!!!!!

PS LIlla I love your idea about printing out katyzzz pic for the star on the tree. Usually we used to make them at school and whoever was the youngest got to put them on the tree. Now that we are older we get stuck with the store ones which can be a bit tacky.
