If you add sugar to your coffee, you may be helping your brain.
A new study in the journal Human Psychopharmacology: Clinical and Experimental said a combination of caffeine and glucose improves cognitive performance when it comes to sustained attention and memory.
In the study, the researchers from the University of Barcelona analyzed brain activity using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines. Forty volunteers were tested after they were given one of four drinks that contained either caffeine, glucose, a drink that combined both, or a placebo.
