Does meditation make your brain fat?
January 7th 2009 22:45
Did you know that it is good to have a "fat" brain?
So when someone calls you a fat head you can be proud.
So, go ahead, sleep on the job.
Sleep is good for the brain, too, but sleep is not meditation.
Meditation requires consideration all on its own, but by inadvertent reference the Star.com seems to have mixed the two up.
They give the benefits of "catnaps" and what this does for your memory.
People who take daytime naps outperform non-nappers on memory exercises. And, surprisingly, a mere six minutes of shut-eye is enough to refresh the mind
. They make the point
It seems that the mere act of falling asleep activates a brain-boosting process. (Really, boss, it's a performance-enhancer!) Since the boost takes place at the onset of sleep, it doesn't matter whether you get six or 60 winks.
With a sudden diversion the article goes on to mention the benefits of exercise and I'll not disagree with that and throws in a few more things you can do for your memory as I've been telling you ad nauseam.
Exercise regularly to increase circulation to all your organs (including the brain). Engage in mental challenges such as learning a new language or completing crossword puzzles. While you're making your brain healthier, eat a teaspoon of cheap mustard or a curry dish daily, and ask your doctor about a non-brain-crossing statin drug (like Lipitor or Crestor) or high-dose niacin. All of these contribute to keeping you sharp enough to challenge people 12 to 16 years younger.
They recommend helping others to make you feel good about yourself and to become more of an optomist.
Take the dog for a walk,
Saying thanks and creating rituals all help your memory as your stress levels come down, shown by stress hormones.
Set short term achievable goals rather than go for the big picture and literally "miss the boat"
This is a little different in perspective and we'll cover the advantages of meditation in a different post, possibly one that is more precise about it than this one.
Thank you one and all for being part of my life, oh, I do feel good, now.
How about you? Anything I can help you with?
