The Final Sleep

Shhh. Could you keep it down? Can't you see we're trying to get a little shut-eye?

A better mood, better work performance and better health all have one thing in common: good, consistent sleeping habits.

Sleep. It rejuvenates. It refreshes. It restores. And while it may seem as if sleep renders us inactive, the truth is quite the contrary. Our bodies, our brains, our minds are accomplishing great things while we slumber.

We got much of our information from Dr. Nilesh Davé (pronounced DUH-vay), medical director of the Sleep and Breathing Disorders Center at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

He hooked us when he said: "When you get good-quality sleep and enough hours of it, it is amazing how much better patients' moods are, how much better they're functioning. They're truly happy."

And, yes, we realize that stress, snoring or time constraints keep millions of people from sleeping as they should. We hope to help with that, too.

During a series of studies in the 1980s, rats were forced to stay awake. After five days, they started dying.

In 2005, a 28-year-old South Korean man died after playing an online computer game for 50 straight hours with few breaks.

"You have a full-body collapse," Dr. Davé explains. "There's no stability in the brain. The body ends up not being able to restore itself."

And the rest of the article you have already had, but please use the link at the top, to the full article.

This shows just how important sleep is.

Hey Katyzzz I suffer from serve sleep Apnea I use a CPAP and it has made a world of difference for me. I suffered for years, I stayed so worn out, and sleepy that it affected my ever day life.

I had a sleep study done and found I was only getting stage two sleep, and very rarely stage three. One night I only 16 minutes of stage three. My blood pressure was very high, and blood pressure pills didn't help much as I was taking three, twice a day.

I can't tell you how much better I feel now that I can sleep, I actually look forward to going to bed now. Before I knew that I would just fall a sleep and then wake up not being able to breath, it was very restful.
