Is sex on your mind?

April 12th 2007 08:33
sex on the mind
Signature Tune

The Australian brings us a review of an excellent book on sexual behaviour, with emphasis on the differences in male and female behaviour.

"Apparently the sex differences we observe in our kids at nursery school, when 3 years of age,

[according to the book's author, Louann Brizendine, in her analysis of gender differences], are just the beginning of a mutual lifelong incomprehension that never quite disappears."

In 'What's on her mind?"she tells us that testosterone in the male fetus, for instance, will shrink the brain's communication centre, reduce the hearing cortex and make the part of the brain that processes sex twice as large as that of the female. Thoughts about sex enter a woman's brain perhaps once a day, but in a man every time he sees a woman.

Rather than trying to pre-empt this wonderful review I'm taking you straight to the

link

It sounds like really interesting reading and who isn't interested in sex?

What do you think?

I don't think about sex every time I see a woman I fancy, but I'm kind of strange like that.

Great to have your views, Nick,

Birds do it, bees do it, even.....in Brazil do it......let's fall in love, love, often used as a synonym for sex, don't you think? How do the monkeys compare with rabbits?

Sex for human beings is different 'tho, ask the biologists.

Tell the girls,,,,,it's time they learned.

In sanity corner,

I find it interesting that testosterone shrinks the communication centre. I did not know that!
And believe me, after breeding ducks, lovebirds, budgies, cats, horses...etc....Then going out to a club where the hormones are flyin, there is absolutely no difference between us and animals.

Sorry, Kleo,

But you're really wrong there. Other animals have sex to reproduce and only at those times, the human being has sex for a variety of other reasons which I won't go into right now, I'll put a post on sometime soon about that.

And, as I understand it, pheromones play their part for animals OTHER than humans, but I need to update on that. I'll cover that soon too.

As for genes, there is much complexity in the way genes interact and the effect of environmental issues [not the green ones]. I'll see what I can do about all these things asap.

Meanwhile, life goes on, take from it what you can, it's your due.

Hope you'll still like me, you're one of my most receptive visitors and I really like hearing your views and I appreciate your openness.

And we have a mutual love of and respect for the animal kingdom.

What about those who abstain?

That was me for about a year of my post pubescent life.

Love rises to the top of to do's in such an instance. Don't know why...

Opto,

Abstain?,

Even the celibate don't have to abstain, if you get my gist. Other than the Catholic Church hierarchy, and there may be others, but I just don't know about this, sounds like an interesting post coming up.

Sexual energy can be converted to other things and a woman will often give sex to get what she perceives as love, a catch 22 really.

Here we are parting from biology into psychology, and we may well need to turn it over to the experts in their academic play, known in respectful circles as research.

The id drives the need, God's trick to keep us reproducing, but the ego and superego come into play, at least for human beings, come to think of it, I'm seeing too much evidence for the contrary nowadays, one wonders where it will all end, if ever, and we certainly won't be around to see it.

I've some other interesting posts planned but one could never finish exploring this subject as so many people are interested and even perverted sex is getting far too much attention.

The solution is beyond me, not enough work in the fields I think and too many armchair sportspeople.

The world population is starting to reach dazzlingly high levels, so maybe it's time for a change.

Who am I to say? We're just all pawns in the great Chess Play of life.

katyzzz....lovely to have your visit.

As a veternarian, I can assure you that many other animals engage in sex for more than just procreation...dolphins can and do have sex whenever and wherever it suits them and the females do not have to be in estrus either...they simply enjoy having sex! There is a group of monkey's in Africa called the Bonobos, who use sex as a form of communication, procreation, hierachy within the troop, or to reestablish caste or ranking, and whether it's to say hello, goodbye, I'm hungry, I'm sorry, I'm a subordinate, I'm submissive, I'm the leader, I'm whatever! Males will routinely mount other males, females will mount other females, and of course, males will always mount females...and face to face copulation, once thought only to be unique to human beings occurs in about one out of every three sucessful matings...but it's a social tradition specific only to this particular species of chimpanzee...And another fact about the Bonobos, is that either sex masturbates openly and in front of other members of the troop to say "hey, look what I can do! And I'm higher in rank than you are!" So basically, not only do Bonobos do it in order to produce offspring, they do it because it's a great stress reliever, a great way to tell another member you fancy them, or just a way to pass the time away...and, of course, because they truly enjoy it! Oddly enough because of this open and blatant sexuality, there are rarely any serious fights within a troop...wars are unheard of among the Bonobos, and simple disputes are alwasy solved using sex as a prime motivator...Wouldn't it be fantastic if everytime you got really angry at someone they wanted to have sex with you to smooth over your temper? Now THAT'S what I'd call being civilized! lol

I've never understood what the picture at the top of your posts has to do with the post itself.

For example, if I were doing MSPaint art for this story, it would have been a giant representation of the female genetalia. A classy representation, of course.

Come to think of it, that's pretty much what I'd post every time.

I guess I'm just one of those "black and white, no grey area" types who doesn't "get" art.

Nick,

I was absolutely thrilled to have your response, it was very enlightening, I'm not too sure about the conclusions you draw, sounds like some of those chimps don't have a lot of other things to do.

There's been some suggestion that Dolphins have superior intelligence to humans, they certainly have remarkable healing powers.

I think there are a lot of so called experts or should I call them sexperts around who need your knowledge to rewrite their findings.

You certainly gave me a fast track to increased knowledge and I was delighted with that.

But, I think, even you will accept some differences between human sexuality and other species and I've yet to see another species design a harbour bridge, not that that has a great deal to do with sex, on the surface anyway, but then again a lot of human beings couldn't design a harbour bridge, either, maybe thereby hangs a tale.

I will go to your link which I feel sure I will find interesting.

Meanwhile I just love your name, so novel and yet so realistic, for most of us really.

I do hope I shall see you again sometime.

Slurred words,

I don't get art either, this started out as an exercise to encourage older people and/or the computer illiterate or semi literate to become more familiar with computers which is particularly important for older people, not to display my talents or lack of them.

I just have a facility with computer art tools using rather unsophisticated software, which anyone can do really.

The purpose was to encourage their use as a brain exercise to add another dimension to already entrenched skills, to encourage neural sprouting of cross connections in the brain, to preserve memory and brain health.

It was a 'new activity' for many so provided the needed diversity to skirt around those nasty little deposits which accumulate in our brains, and not just the brains of the elderly I might add.

I like art, some more than others, mine I would classify more as free form design, achieving a lot with a little. I wanted to use a program that was available for free.

I think anyone can appreciate art, it's just a matter of looking and feeling and observing and tuning into what you like. Remember, art includes sculpture and I feel sure you'd like some of those.

There's nothing wrong in being black or white rather than grey.

The signature tune announces me, it does not mean to be representative of what follows, although occasionally there is a direct or subtle connection, at other times none at all, but I can generally create an argument for what I choose. It's do first, name later, rather than the other way around.

To give you any more information would require me to summarise the hundreds of posts I have put on, they have a certain history, but for the time being I hope I've solved just a little of the mystery for you.

Your visit and views are most welcome. Everyone owns sex don't you think?

Oh Katyzzz!
I once watched my broodmare, OUT of season, stand still and get bred by 4 geldings and 2 mares! Not being in season, and being bred by geldings and mares, there was no hope of reproduction whatsoever....Believe me, animals and humans are no different....
I truly believe intense sexual response in humans is triggered by pheremones speaking to one another "Perfect genetic match" even though a woman can be said to be 'in season' or 'on heat' while ovulating, because humans have the ability to get pregnant while OUT of season or heat(due to the sperm being able to survive for long periods in fallopian tubes and uterus) we can have that response triggered at any time. Also, such a long gestation period coupled with a long time rearing our young means that we need a longer 'heat' period to encourage us to have more sex to reproduce at all.
Im working on a genetic experiment and Ive been utterly astounded by factors that I thought were environmental that are actually genetic. Some of the things magnus does - facial expressions and certain preferences - are EXACTLY like his sire, and I thought it was environmental.
The ONE difference between humans and animals? Humans can get horny when pregnant. Never seen an animal do that, but theres a first time for everything!
