Will everyone get dementia?
August 6th 2009 05:52
Studies have targeted older people who don't have dementia, aged 75 to 85 years old, and found almost one quarter developed dementia within 5 years.
For every activity such as reading, writing, doing crossword puzzles, playing board or card games, havind group discussions, and playing music the onset was delayed by almost 1/5 years.
From a healthy life style point of view it was found that smoking, having high blood pressure and having diabetes in middle age could increase the risk of dementia.
For some of these the ultimate risks were alarmingly high, especially with smoking.
Something for you to think about, surely.
So depending on how you conduct your life and the things that you do, it seems that if not everyone will develop dementia, but the statistics of those who will are alarmingly high.
It is very sad both for these afflicted people and their carers, so if you don't care about you, at least care about them.
And do remember what is good for your heart is good for your brain, and many already know about what is good for their hearts even though they may do nothing about it.
But congratulations to all those who do.
