Keep pushing your Brain.

Signature Tune

Doing ‘brain exercises’ such as watching countdown, playing Sudoku or taking a shower with your eyes closed can make us all up to 40 per cent cleverer within seven days, according to research by a BBC programme.

There is no evidence to suggest that one can overuse your brain.

Neurogenesis and neuroplasticity, the brain’s natural ability to employ new neurons and adapt the way they travel is the way to ensure good memory and brain power.

Anything that challenges your brain’s processing limits will make it easier for your neurons to form new connections.

The simplest and most effective exercise is continuous stimulation of the brain.

The 5 Rs of memory, or learning, are Reception, Registration, Reinforcement, Retention, and Recall.

Once the student is motivated to receive information it is easier to have it registered. Reinforcement is primarily by repetition.

A former President of Neurological Society of India, and currently Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon and Head, Division of Stereotactic Radiosurgery, Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, Prof Ganapathy says
A mind rich in knowledge can produce rich associations upon encountering new information. An empty mind is as useful as a toddler given the power of the Internet in search of a solution.

So although "use it or lose it" is often quoted, it's how you use it that can reap the best results that is why you should Push Your Brain.

Scrabulous sounds like fun, a little social interaction, too, if but at a distance.

Love to play anything that challenges the brain.

Have Brain Training on my mobile (Palm Treo 750) but find much of the mental arithmetic too easy (I didn't grow up in the age of calculators).

Love to play Chess when I have an opportunity or someone is willing. Yahoo Games fulfils that if no one is available.

Sudoku is also a lot of fun and I really liek that as well.

I try to give my brain a push, but it just turns around and flicks my ear.

Hmm, eyes closed in the shower? Sounds vvveerrryyy tricky. I'll go try it and I'll come back if it makes me smarter. Otherwise I won't remember.

My shower is pre-caffeine, so my eyes are always still closed.
