Brain Games - again!
October 10th 2007 20:30
More things are afoot for Nintendo DS. It had to happen, didn't it?
That diminutive piece of equipment with its pointer and touch screen was destined to go further than Just Brain 1 and Brain 2 and a few other games not specifically designed to 'tune' up your brain and keep it healthy.
Now there are plans for a new game. Majesco is on the point of announcing left brain, right brain, a game which is designed to both 'fix your head' and improve your manual dexterity.
15 different mini-games have been designed to develop speed, accuracy, association, recognition, memory , and strategy. Played in book-style, the game requires players rotate the DS in order to exercise both their dominant and mostly unused non-dominant hand.
The beauty of DS seems to be that having purchased the equipment, which is not cheap, games come at a very affordable price, but is it just that variety is required or do the other games get to their 'use-by' date very quickly. I've yet to work that out.
As to my free trial with Luminosity for which I am very grateful, I actually did almost a full range of the initial level. Well above average with the first try of no.1, I starred with no 2, and did competently with 3 and 5 while 4, if I remember that number correctly, it was a few days ago, I just couldn't get off the ground scoring 0 after 0 as the clock ticked on and the time ran out.
This one was for working memory but I just didn't take the time to think about it before launching into it. My score was miserable, it was all but over before I worked out how to play, then did it badly, being acutely aware of the time and shame, shame, shame, my remorse lay there in a pool of despair and unenlightenment.
I was assessed as being tired that evening. I haven't tried again. But that has been mainly because of a lack of time and circumstance not with any disenchantment and I shall have to get cracking before my free trial runs out. But I liked what I saw and it was a little more demanding than I expected, especially, it seems, initially, at working out what to do with my temperament and plunging in unprepared.
I shall report on my progress and if I haven't done the next level by the end of the day I shall be mortified. Time marches on.
