Does exercise make us smarter?
March 30th 2007 21:32
We're talking about physical exercise here and for both the young and the old.
"This isn't just about exercise making us feel perkier and better able to focus. This is about the brain performing at a higher, better level, over time, in people who work their bodies."
This is from the text of an article written by Betsy Hart who goes on to quote researchers as saying "that they had coaxed the human brain into growing new nerve cells, a process that for decades had been thought impossible, simply by putting subjects on a three-month aerobic-workout regimen."
It is claimed that this knowledge is particularly relevant to children and the developing brain and there appear to be implications for those suffering such conditions as ADHD.

So, I guess if you want to keep your brain fit and healthy, physical exercise of the aerobic kind is the way to go, not, of course, leaving out the other factors which are discussed on this blog from time to time.

Too much exercise is certainly weird and it seems to have become an obsession with some.
I think the point of this post was directed at people and children who do not get sufficient exercise.
Wise to be wise.
