PET scans reveal Alzheimer's disease

Pet scans - brain
Signature Tune

"Once a safe and effective drug for removing amyloid from the brain or preventing its accumulation is developed, it will be important to see how closely PiB PET scans can track those effects."

There are many variants in the disease processes in the brain and despite the prescence of amyloid-beta deposits many do not show signs of cognitive impairment.

Autopsy studies were used to support the findings and this article from Massachusetts General Hospital is quite a technical one.

However, it is interesting to see the advances that are being made and the link provides full details of the article and the techniques used.
