Paris back in jail. Justice is served?

Paris back in jail
Signature Tune

Is this a triumph for the ordinary man? It seems like it is to me. If you've been watching the news you would have seen the comments of the many angry American people who saw Paris as respresentive of the rich and famous who seem, in their eyes, to always receive preferential treatment.

"Paris heads back to court. CNN

A police cruiser picks up Paris Hilton to transport her to a Los Angeles court.

Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer was apparently unmoved by the pleas of Hilton's three lawyers to send her back to home confinement due to an unspecified medical condition. He ordered Hilton returned to a Los Angeles County jail to serve out the remainder of her 45-day sentence for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case."

it's not just the rich and famous who recieve preferential treatment. What about those millions of illegal aliens who break law repeatedly but are never charged because the government wants to encourage illegal immigration?

I never liked Paris but somehow the way she cried made me think she is only a scared girl under all that glitzy exterior. Whether she deserves jailtime is another issue, why do people always feel so glad that a celebrity has been booked like this? Why are the so-called "ordinary people" so spiteful?

Nagster,

The ones I saw and heard in the street, before she was returned to jail didn't seem spiteful just resentful and angry.

I can't say I saw anyone who was glad about the way she was picked up. She is after all just a frail human being just like the rest of us. The trouble is they flaunt the law so much which causes the everyday man to resent it.

I understand how you feel about those other issues you mention, but this really is just about Paris.

But I was interested to read your views.

Understanding life is not easy.

Many people have been through the court system and understand how arbitrary the justice process is. Above all the ordinary mortal who protests that he has young children at home or has a job he will lose if he goes to jail and is invariably ignored will find the Paris Hilton experience perplexing. Does being a celebrity render you more vulnerable than having a young child at home who will miss you or elderly parents you care for left alone? These are all situations that I have personally encountered when dealing with felons. I have seen a lot of ordinary people suffer in this way. It's not that they gain a particular joy in seeing Paris suffer through going to jail it's just that they feel that the easy ride she had through a life of multiple felonies every bit as serious as their own, somehow makes their despair more acute and more overwhelming. The treatment Paris has makes them feel the sense of injustice more acutely.
