Tapping into your 6th sense

Call it a hunch, intuition, whatever — I just knew I was doing the right thing.

I was apparently following what Noel Estenson, a former Fortune 500 CEO, calls “an incredible hunch.”

The now-retired CEO is author of “Be Still and Know,” a book that can be of some value to anyone willing to think about things beyond what they can see, feel, taste, smell or hear.

Estenson’s book is about following hunches, whether you think they come from God, the universe or wherever. While Estenson is open about his faith, the concept works whether someone is religious or not. You don’t have to believe in God to believe in trusting your gut.

Everybody has access to their sixth sense, Estenson insists. It’s whether people choose to listen to their spirit or not that makes a difference. And it doesn’t matter if a person is Christian, Hindu or atheist, he writes.

Speaking by phone last week from Wisconsin, where he lives with his family, Estenson recalled Thomas Edison being asked where the idea for his inventions came from.

“He said, literally, it comes from outer space,” Estenson said. “There’s a universal intelligence out there that we have access to.”

His book makes the point that inspiration isn’t always easily recognized by the five senses. Sometimes ideas — about yourself, your business — come from somewhere else.

Listening to that inner voice is critical, Estenson said, and so is having the courage to act on your hunches.

“Receive it,” he said. “Once it comes, it’s so easy for our ego to take over and say, ‘No, no, that’s just a stupid voice in my head.’”

Artists and inventors aren’t the only ones who can benefit from instinct, he said.

“My background is finance and business,” Estenson said. “All the tests I took back then showed me as a left-brainer off the scale.”

It takes more than book smarts to be successful in business, he argues, and I think he’s right

I think I do, Katyzzz. However, my sixth sense is only a peanut, if I compared it with my girl friend... You know what, she said a man with sixth sense is kind of "Sexy"! Lol
