What is Art? - Cubism - and the Art of Pablo Picasso

February 25th 2007 05:13
Pablo Picasso
Signature Tune

Just for a laugh I've included here some art shown in a Gallery exhibition. It is not done with a paintbrush, so, of course, it can't possibly be art. Would someone please inform the gallery.

What is art?

As to the rules of Art I wonder how many Picasso broke and how art ever moves forwards without breaking the rules.

If anyone KNOWS the rules of Art, they may include suitable references in their comments.

I am just a mere mortal, doing what I do, so I hardly qualify.

But, here is some information about Picasso, if you do not want to spend a long time just selectively have a quick look. I did and gained enough from that to suit my purposes.

Pablo Picasso

And now, here are some of Picasso's works

Des Hombres

I guess life compensates

Poor people

Fishing

Mum

Here's a Sepia

The Dream

Three Musicians

I'd like to give you some more but these things take time.

Wendi,

I think I'll appoint you as my art consultant.

At the usual rate of pay around here, don't wait for it, I'll contact you.

May I come to your home schooling?

I've really had very little to do with Art, my talents and training lying in different directions.

Nevertheless, from French Culture, I rather developed a liking for the French Impressionists and from one of my General Education courses a selection of which was compulsory at University, Australian Impressionist Paintings and, of course, the usual intellectual approach, most of which has been forgotten but it is surprising how much stays with you.

Thanks for your visit and all the info. Incidentally, what is art?

katyzzz....oh, I get it, it's something you do with a brush, like painting your house, for instance.

aaaaahhhhhhh you always manage to take me back to my art class days with posts like this....love it...LOVE IT, it was my Minor at Uni, although I never chose Picasso for study we did touch on his work in some non-Uni classes I went to. Pointillism is a great technique isn`t it? My friend did a Kudu face in this style and it came out incredibly beautiful....if I could get a copy I would post it for you....

loved your selection here....

Ash,

I love to make people happy and to trigger happy old memories, sometimes all we need is that trigger.

Want some study tips, I've got some websites, rather special, that I can refer you to.

Ash,

Just give me a little time to check out the link, I have to go about it the right way especially if I'm going to share it with the world.

Tip no 1, from me, don't indulge, prioritise,

Find out what you have to do first and start doing it, give some thought in between times how you can better cope with the clutter, there you sound just a little Cancerian.

Make friends with your classmates, you need each other, if unsuccessful with one, move on to another, it is a fast paced and selfish world, unfortunately.

Find out who is a friendly Librarian, give the others a miss, there's lots of lovely people work in Libraries and it is possible you'll find one who can be very helpful, especially if they can see you love what you do.

Get to know the Library system as quickly as possible and concentrate on Time management.

That's more than one, just out of my head. Let me know if these are helpful or if you're having problems overcoming particular problems.

HIya katyzzz

Thanks for the tips...I hear you on all of them..I love going to the Library there are some really helpful people in there, always smiling and ready to help out...it can get a bit noisy though so is not really a place for study, more just to pop in, get what you want and pop back out again...

I am just trying to catch up at the moment which is frustrating me because I am not reading things properly...so have worked out a list of priorities today and things seem to be going a little better. My problem is that my focus goes off in so many different directions...I was reading some article for one of the classes which mentioned a book that sounded really intriguing to me..so instead of finishing the article I then proceeded to spend an hour at the mall in the bookshop, looking for the book, which I don`t even need to read *lol* then I went to a movie and had some coffee with a friend who I bumped into...and now I am on Orble when I should be finishing the article that I started reading at 8am this morning time management and focus...these two things I need to keep in check because I am so useless at both of them.....whew!

Ash,

All of this makes you a great person, but at risk of being a poorly performing student, it's the markers you have to impress.

Start a power point for yourself on what you need to focus on.

You're entitled to some free time so don't belt yourself over the head.

Here's the web address, anyone can use it, there's a certain amount for free and then some for a downloadable program, remember I am not talking JUST to you here.

Let me know if you're getting anything useful, any hiccups I can probably help you with privately, but I am not happy to help the whole world this way.

Really Long Link

I hope this works, let me know if it doesn't. I've just tested it, it seems OK

aaah, Katyzzz! Im back at school now! I did art every single year and my major work(a wearable sculpture) got me top marks. Some of my teachers believed in rules, some didnt. My all time fave is Cezanne, and I loved Van Goh's whorls...Who didnt? I know a lot about Picasso even if he wasnt a fave. I found it frustrating that my final teacher, who encouraged me to make the wearable, didnt believe in rules yet constantly applied them to my sketches! I admit, Im still in the learning stages of pencil, but under her guidance, I could have done better!
I think that your work is the essence of art - No rules, just colour and inspiration and feeling. Thats true art.

WOW K, after that wrap up you're welcome at my place for morning or afternoon tea, anytime.

It's really good to hear from those who have studied art and their own particular frustrations.

Unfortunately, most institutions don't practice what they preach and the student is stuck with the consequences, but you must feel very proud of your achievements despite all this, well done.

And thanks for generously sharing so much with us.

I seem to be of the view that that is what blogging is most useful for.

And thank you for giving us a view of what art is, I thought we only had one expert around here, or that's what we are supposed to believe.

It's good to know of others with more training who have more diverse views.

Katyzzz,
You are a true sweetheart. Im so glad that you appreciate my comments because it is nice to meet someone who genuinely tries to think of something nice to say about everyone, no matter how you feel! And I dont claim to be an expert on anything, but at the same time I do claim to know a lot about everything!
I want to thankyou for all of your encouragement, I doubt I would still be here now without it. And I agree - the true purpose of the blog should always be personal growth, not worries about what people think or say.
Your art is a joy and a pleasure, I love stopping in to see what colours are in your head everyday!

K

You're just such a nice person, but how could an animal lover be anything else.

All I have at the moment is the wild lorrikeets [they're very beautiful] and a neighbour's cockatiel who I talk with and visit almost daily. I help put his cage in and out whenever I can.

Cockatiels are great little birds, I think you'd call them part of the parrot family as are the lorrikeets, we also see many pink and grey galahs and sulfur crested cockatoos, one big one of which landed on my window sill and we were talking but he came by and ripped the wood off the window sill, they'll do that, he was plump and well fed so he wasn't hungry so I had to shoo him away, but it was wonderful to see him so close.

I'm coming over to visit your animal farm via cyberspace any day now.

I'm glad I had a positive effect on you.

Sorry to make this like a chat room but had to reply -
I can be nice and I can be nasty. Ive stopped worrying about being a 'good' or a 'bad' person, I asses each situation individually and act accordingly. People make their judgements - even if thats the Creators job - and we cant help that, what is important is to be true to your feelings in each situation. Not follow a code.
The stupidest thing the human race EVER did was put a 'versus' in between good and evil. Cant everyone see that they NEED each other? Like night needs day and joy needs pain?
And boy, do I have stories about cockies! About 4 houses ago, my mum put out a bowl of water on a hot day. Then emptied our old seed near it. Four years later she was buying a 20kg bag of wild bird seed A WEEK to feed the 4TH GENERATION cockies and galahs that were bringing their babies down! We always recognised junior, a baby in the first year, he was king of the flock by the fourth year, and would fly right down to the kitchen 3 times a day to knock on the window. If it was open, tear off the flyscreen and walk in screeching!
Oh, the poor people who moved in when we left! 3 times a day you could not SEE the yard for the hundreds of birds that filled it!

K,

That picture is absolutely delightful. And I understand birds' demands, mine do it too. Others sit there quietly while I work.

You are who you are. I wouldn't worry about it. You can bet those animals think you're perfect.

Thanks for the visit and the tales.
