Baby born without a brain survives one year

baby lives without brain

Nicholas Coke was born without a brain one year ago. He was only supposed to live a few hours after his birth, but the baby shocked doctors and family by surviving an entire year.

The Pueblo, Colo. boy was born with a genetic disease called Anencephaly in which all or part of the brain is missing. Nicholas has a brain stem, which keeps him breathing, his heart beating, and his blood pressure stable.

According to his mother, Sheena Coke, Nicholas

“can’t see, he can’t hear, he can’t suck. He doesn’t crawl, doesn’t sit up.”

Anencephaly occurs in 1 out of 10,000 babies however; many such pregnancies lead to miscarriage prior to birth.

His mother said

“He’s a miracle. He’s changed so many lives.”

May we all inspire others as Nicholas Coke has done.

Many, many years ago, I knew some people who adopted a baby that turned out to have Anecephaly. They returned him to the adoption agency. It was a tragedy all the way around, but I've often wondered what they would have done if he'd been their biological child.

Nicholas' parents sound like good people. May God bless them.

You are so right SL and such wonderful parents, it lifts the spirits that such wonderful people still exist and especially the father, after all we often expect it of women.

Apparently since I posted this, the little boy is laughing and smiling. Quite a miracle.

Well the fact is the parents are prepared to do it and show a great deal of love, and who of us knows what the ultimate outcome will be and the world is learning from such experiences.

Call it an accident or a miracle, rest assured those parents are like saints.

But I do understand how you feel and I'm sure I would not cope well under those circumstances.

While we don't approve of infanticide, these things are not going to go away.

I just find it ironic that so many are so willing to kill potentially happy humand beings and healthy ones by abortion practices, society seems to have some very odd values.
