Remembering Nature and Nurture. (LINK)
September 28th 2007 09:19
I'm really sorry but the server is having problems so there are no pictures to-day.
However I can bring you pictures via the link and one is truly beautiful to-day. The spectacular achievements of nature.
PHOTOGRAPH
link to CNN's photo of the day. It's unusual and maybe someone can fill us in on its history.
Location Unknown, 1996
Photograph by Cary Wolinsky
A close-up of a mounted blue morpho butterfly shows its unique iridescent sheen.
These mesmerizing insects, indigenous to the rain forests of Central and South America, get their cobalt hue not from pigment but from the thousands of semitransparent scales that filter blue from the visible spectrum and radiate it out from the wings.
(Photo shot on assignment for, but not published in, "The Quest for Color," July 1999, National Geographic magazine)
link to National Geographic photo and bigger is definitely better.
THE BRAIN
To-day is Alzheimer's day.
Insulin, it turns out, may be as important for the mind as it is for the body. Research in the last few years has raised the possibility that Alzheimer’s memory loss could be due to a novel third form of diabetes.
Now scientists at Northwestern University have discovered why brain insulin signaling — crucial for memory formation — would stop working in Alzheimer’s disease. They have shown that a toxic protein found in the brains of individuals with Alzheimer’s removes insulin receptors from nerve cells, rendering those neurons insulin resistant.

It's important for us to keep up with what is being done in this area don't you think?
Unfortunately, I can't bring you any digitals or technology until the server is fixed but I wanted you to have the photographs and some news of Alzheimer's on this important day.
I'd be interested in what you have to say.

Flashes of memories
Looks like I missed the shot of the butterfly - but that one of the fire twirling is groovy!
