Grass roots of motor sports
July 30th 2008 09:40
Jul 29 - The annual 12-hour lawnmower race in Pulborough, England saw little grass cut as the bladeless mowers raced through the night.
This year's race was dubbed 'The grass roots of motor sports' and 56 teams battled overnight from 8 p.m. on Saturday (July 26th) to 8 a.m. on Sunday (July 27th) to claim top honours in the most prestigious lawnmower race on the planet.
Hot and dry conditions made the race a real endurance test especially through the night.
As dawn came around most of the competitors were still in the race. The eventual winners were team 'Promo Racers' who completed a staggering 388 laps.
