6 Minutes to a Better Memory

October 4th 2008 05:53
memory
Signature Tune

For a quick and easy boost to your brainpower this weekend, pull down the shades, close your eyes, and catch some daytime ZZZs.

People who take daytime naps outperform non-nappers on memory exercises. And, surprisingly, a mere 6 minutes of shut-eye is enough to refresh the mind.

The Shut-Eyes Have It
How does a quick catnap power up your thinker? Seems the mere act of falling asleep triggers a brain-boosting neurobiological process that remains effective regardless of how long you snooze.

Too bad I can only sleep like that when I'm sick.

What is it with you and brain love? Are you scared you're getting Alzheimers in your old age?

Just kidding,

Not at all dear, I'm afraid YOU might, but the brain happens to be a very special interest of mine and I'm trying to get people to use theirs by trying some of my computer art for themselves ( a new experience) and maintaining their brain health in a number of ways, I should have called this the brain blog (plus some of course) we learn as we go I thought MS short for microsoft would guarantee a readership - silly me.

And, of course statistics show we are in for a huge epidemic of Alzheimer's with an ageing population, and people really don't use their brain much after they have finished their initial learning ( there are exceptions, like myself, of course, and even I am getting a bit slack) plus I too am learning by doing this and not always liking what I am learning.

For a more comprehensive explanation, start with my blog no 1 and work through, and unlike yourself Dianna, I don't set great store on a writing career, and nor, it seems do most around here, and if you look at the stats, my poetry blog comes up well in writing and it's not even my own work, but I think it's nice for folks to have a little collection of poetry to which they can refer.

By acknowledged poets, the others have yet to show their credentials.

It's a hard world as you have probably already learned, rather earlier than some, I only learned that late in life.

Incidentally, I have always had a superb memory, but that does not mean I remember everything, forgetting is as necessary as remembering and not being able to forget is a serious disorder.

So what's with me and the brain, we all have one, we should take it seriously and use it far in excess of what most do. Variety is the key.

Fair enough. I have a good memory myself, only I can't even think properly right now because I'm sick.

Nice, long response there. Detailed.

Most sane/smart people don't set great store in a writing career. I'm just screwed up in the head. Doomed to die young.

You're right about being sick and not being able to think straight.

Take it easy on yourself Dianna, you have many years to recover from what's bothering you, but obey a few rules to protect your health.

I do hope someone is looking after you, you need it at your age.

techno seems to have answered for me Dianna, he's a little intrusive like that, but fortunately we don't see him too often, I didn't realize he was so caring, just goes to show.

He seems to have given you some good advice, ignoring my post, of course.

But, then again, he is a male.

Hey katyzzz I can remember one time I took a nap for fifteen minutes, and I woke up and felt like I had slept for hours, and I was feeling great. But there has been other times that a half and hour to a hour nap made me feel terrible.

Katyzzz just keep up the good work, if you help one person it has been worth it.

The trick with this one is to keep it short, set the alarm or get someone to wake you up, sometimes you may be just so tired that you really need some good long extra sleep.

Thanks a lot for your encouragement, Lester, we think alike.

Techno,
Don't worry; I'll get over it. It's just stress sickness.

Katyzzz,
Yes he has. Very interesting. He invaded your mind for a moment there.

Very intrusive. But then aren't most men?
