Memory Binders!

astrocytes memory binders brain research

According to a new research conducted, the little stat shaped cells in brain are very essential for it. They help in making long term memories of a person.

Earlier on, three cells called astrocytes were thought to be nothing but fillers in order to fill the empty spaces between the neurons of the brain that are vital for its functioning.

This study was conducted in the Mount of Sinai Medical School and it revealed that there was a constant need of these cells. The lack or the improper function of the same led to amnesia in rats.

The study revealed that there is the need of delivery of lactate for the formation of memory. This is an energy source which comes from glycogen which is a stored form of glucose. These astrocytes need to go to the neurons for the efficient functioning of memory forming in the brain.

This means that these were the underdogs which were always there and kept working for the smooth functioning of the brain, but were unnoticed. Every little part of the human body has its purpose and works for the smooth function of the complex mechanism day and night.
