On Memory and the Brain

On memory and the brain
Signature Tune

I thought you might like some bits and pieces to help keep your mind on your memory.

These snippets are from the Web and complement information you have already been given plus give a glimpse into other areas that are resulting in important findings about the brain and its workings, still in many ways a huge mystery.

I haven't mentioned apples specifically before but they have found that the antioxidants in apples help as they have just the right dose of antioxidants to raise levels of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that's essential to memory and tends to decline with age.

Iron is important to help the neurotransmitters essential to memory function.

Don't worry, be happy.

Multitasking is not good for the memory, you need to focus very specifically on aspects of the task that you need to remember. [When are they going to tell Universities and employers]

Control your cholesterol, it doesn't take much to clog the tiny blood vessels in the brain.

Video games are good for your brain

What's an eight-letter word for brain booster? The answer could be Nintendo. Experts say playing one of the new games specially designed to improve your focus could have the indirect effect of getting your memory in shape.

Video games are good for your brain, puzzles and brain teasers make connections between neurons. This sets aside a store for the future.

Here's a BONUS, a glass of red can help your head.[ It did say a glass]

Those 'lost' memories may merely be inaccessible, mice [ whose brains had atrophied as in dementia in humans]regained long-term memories and learning ability. [This was reported in Nature in the April 29 edition] The same results also were achieved with a new experimental class of drugs.

Well, I think that is enough for this post, there will be more to follow.

I had another good brain booster but I forgot it...

Oh yes! Studies at Harvard medical show that people use an otherwise *unused* area of the brain while playing a musical instrument.

Those responses were fantastic, hang on a sec, who forgot what again, but all was saved by John's drink, Tammy's apples and D.'s filling up the spaces in her brain with music.

Good fun replies, glad to see you're thinking about your brains.

Katz,

Nope, that sig tune didn't jog my memory... but the Merlot did (snap John D), eggs-ake-tally...

I think they make up those game reports... I do remember reading though that people who can speak two or three languages hardly suffer dementia at all. Merlot and Latin, French or Spanich sounds great to me ... I think I'll start with poetry ...mmmm

Now where was I, that's right, I remember, Love is all you need.

Great Post!
Lilla ...
