Lumosity’s reference pages and neuroscience glossary, which we hope will clarify any terms or processes that may be pertinent but unfamiliar as you embark on a brain training regimen and begin to learn more about how the mind works. This resource page will continually evolve as more material is added to the Knowledge Center.






Aggregate Field
The idea that that different areas of the brain participate in behavior.




Association cortex
Regions of the cerebral cortex of the brain connected to multiple areas of both cerebral hemispheres; involved in coordinating higher activities such as learning and reasoning.



Blood brain barrier
A protective barrier formed by a tight network of astrocytes and capillaries in the brain; prevents the passage of large molecules and cells into the central nervous system.



Axon Terminal
The end of the axon that interfaces with the synapse. It contains and releases vesicles containing neurotransmitters.



Circadian rhythm
Any naturally occurring, approximately 24 hour (daily) rhythm; involves many biological processes such as sleeping and the regulations of various hormones.



Cogniton
The manipulation and assimilation of sensory information towards the formation of goal orientated action.




Cognitive neuroscience
The scientific study of biological mechanisms of the mind and behavior.



Cognitive training (also Brain Training)
A variety of brain exercises designed to help improve mental abilities, such as attention, memory and problem-solving.

Katyzzz, I always interested on the differences of cognition and precognition, as I thought there are many connection between these two things!

Wilson, precognition seems to suggest ESP doesn't it?
