Neuroscience Reference and Glossary
September 16th 2009 02:49
Lumosity’s reference pages and neuroscience glossary, which we hope will clarify any terms or processes that may be pertinent but unfamiliar as you embark on a brain training regimen and begin to learn more about how the mind works. This resource page will continually evolve as more material is added to the Knowledge Center.
Epinephrine
A hormone and neurotransmitter that activates the sympathetic nervous system; involved in “fight or flight” behavior; also called adrenaline.
Episodic memory
Memory of events; typically context dependent and self referential.
Amino acids
Basic building blocks of proteins.
Attentional Blink
A deficit in visual attention occuring 200-500ms after the first of two visual items are presented.
Autoreceptor
A receptor located in the presynaptic terminal of a neuron; involved in modulating synaptic activity including the synthesis and release of its own neurotransmitters.
There is still a lot there which needs explanation, isn't there, but learn as you go.
