Brain sids research discoveries science

Brain researchers in Australia say they may have discovered the cause of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

They identified two areas of the brain that work together to control breathing, swallowing and coughing when an irritant, like saliva enters the airway.

They suspect SIDS occurs when a child has a problem with this reflex, causing their breathing to stop for long periods.

More studies are being conducted to determine why these brain regions malfunction.
