Learning Languages - a novel approach
March 20th 2007 00:37
I really like this bloggers approach. She calls her blog SUITABLE FOR MIXED COMPANY.
I feel quite sure that there is a small section of Orblers who have no idea how to modify speech and content in keeping with the type of website they are on.
It is not a porn site, nor is it the hallmark of a good writer to repeatedly spatter his/her work with expletives, nor to assume those who have no desire to speak in an uncouth fashion know nothing about sex.
Certainly there are too many females here who put up, uncomplainingly, and even become complicit with such abusive practices.
The blogger sums up her approach very well and lucidly, showing a grasp and control in the use of language which too many people here seem unable to muster.
"Welcome. Around here we discuss books, history, current events, home life, and other things. Politely. (And mostly with good cheer.) The idea is to share information and ideas, and help each other out a bit when we can."
Now that surely is an approach that should be fostered.
As for learning languages, the writer continues -
French radio dramas teach French, Polish, German
From the English-language website of radiofranceinternationale (emphasis in original):
RFI's latest bilingual radio-drama set in a video game. Follow Eva on her mission to save the French Republic from time-terrorists. Will she be able succeed?
Eva finds herself in the midst of a huge explosion at the "Gare de l’Est" in Paris. A wounded man gives her a first clue: a series of numbers. She then finds an old book with the inscription: "La statue domine le mort mais la fertilité est retrouvée". What does it all mean? The gamer has to guide Eva through Paris, past its old booksellers, via the painters in Montmartre to the Père Lachaise cemetery. At her disposal is a magic taxi to speed her around the city. Then there’s the handsome Adrien, a fearless fireman. But hot in pursuit are the mysterious Blackhats. Will Eva complete her mission in time and save the French Republic?
I found audio links, but only got a promo, but elsewhere on the RFI site I found a webpage for people who would like to learn French online. There are fictional adventures,"The news in simple French," tests, more.
And there I found the Mission Europe site (emphasis in original):
Immerse yourself in the world of languages with three exciting Mission Europe adventures. Mission Berlin, Misja Kraków and Mission Paris offer an interesting approach to language learning in 26 episodes. You experience three missions from the perspective of a computer player who joins virtual heroines on adventures in France, Poland and Germany.
In Mission Berlin, the player and the virtual heroine Anna fight against the enemies of re-unified Germany. In Misja Kraków, the player and Suzanna must halt the opponents of Poland's EU accession. In Mission Paris, the player and the heroine Eva compete against an enemy who wants to return France to the era of Napoleon III and restore the Second Empire. After you've successfully completed your mission, you are rewarded with insight into a country, its language and its culture. Choose an adventure and discover the French, German or Polish language. And remember: Danger is lurking everywhere.
It's a novel approach to the teaching of languages and takes the pain out of a rigid approach, don't you agree? - katyzz

I'm going to learn languages the easy way. Muso pays but needs the talent, oh, well.
You're looking decidedly clean and spotless.
