Breakfast for your Brain!

Breakfast for Your Brain participants meet for an hour twice each week for 10 weeks. They do a variety of mental activities, ranging from music and art to math, optical illusions and memory building.

Wilker says the program is popular because of its "run-and-go" format.

"There is no prep time; it's all there," she said. "There is no staff training time, and in this era of shrinking budgets, that's important. Also, few senior centers have their own computer labs, and this doesn't require one."

Breakfast for Your Brain also fosters group interaction and socialization.

"That is so important to seniors," Wilker said.

Breakfast for Your Brain has drawn praise from Beverly Bartlett, outreach specialist for the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Wisconsin; and from aging specialist Marge Engelman, author of "Aerobics of the Mind" and "Whole Brain Workouts."

What a pity there are not some illustrations here, but the key messages do come across.

These are:

Mental activities

Music

Art

Maths

computers

Socializing

optical illusions

Memory training

Group interaction

Anyone over 20 should start looking after their brain now, the younger ones are mostly doing just that at school and college.

But, how about you, what you normally do is most times just simply not enough.

Hey Katyzzz these are good ideas, I do a few of these not for brain training, but I guess because I love doing them.

Whatever the reason, they do help your brain and if you love doing it, that's even better.

Katyzzz, I heard that those people that didn't have breakfast will have 3 times of chance getting Alzheimer's disease when they getting older than those that have regular breakfast in the morning!

So, no matter what, never ever try to skip your breakfast...

That's very good advice, Wilson, I have mine every morning of every day, and a healthy one, at that.
