What's your recommendation for a cheap, serviceable laptop?
November 12th 2008 02:59
Two week ago I could have bought an Aldi ( store name ) laptop for $600 with windows XP, wifi, but it was small ,10 inch screen, and I don't know how heavy it was because I didn't go to see it.
But circumstances and time change things so now I have decided it would be good to be able to lie on the bed, no wires attached or move around wherever I wanted to go and next year use it on the train, etc.
It seems to me Dell has the best to offer, with Dell vostro seeming to be available for $700 but the catch is the deals are loaded with Vista, now I don't want free software, not considering myself expert enough to overcome any computer problems I could face, I know Cibby with his knowledge would be home and hosed.
But, even by Dell's invited reviews by their own users ( purchasers ) it seems there is a gigantic mindswell against Vista. And with this I do not disagree.
I like to get my moneys worth so if any of you have a cheap preference I'd love to know it.
I am not in any immediate rush but once having made a decsion I like to act on it.
And how are you all going with your wifi, I believe it does cause problems at times.
I want cheap, light, great capacity, which is now on offer, wifi and anything else I can get my hands on for the price I am prepared to pay.
I do believe Dell does the best deals but I don't want Vista.
Having made such a gigantic decision I'm anxious to do a 'done deal'
I'm not too good at wading through extraneous information, I just want, cheap, light, functional, large screen, cheap to operate, good rechargeable batteries etc, and there is one thing certain, my adcents will not fund it, it barely manages to cover my internet fees.
Well nerds, geeks, and users of all descriptions, what is the best way for me to jump?
I already have a Dell desktop with heaps of software, more than I actually use, too often, and I could use that, but I really like to get everything I can and Dell's deals seem to be inclusive at present, have a good screen, are fast, great Giga memories.
Please assist me in being mean.
It may actually help someone else too. But do remember I'm talking aussie dollars and purchases overseas are out of the question, given the poor Aussie dollar exchange rate.
Let's hope I get some good replies. I'd love to hear your views.
