Does hypnosis affect your memory?
February 3rd 2008 21:47
Hypnotism creates measurable changes in the brain, researchers have discovered.
New Zealand clinicians suggest studies of what happens under hypnosis may lead to treatments for memory loss
Memories are generally not lost, just misplaced.
Volunteers were subjected to being divided into two groups, one susceptible to hypnosis, one not.
MRI scans under hypnosis showed reduced activity in one are of the brain and increased activity in another.
The two groups showed different degrees of activity.
Giving further insight into how the brain stores memory, it is hoped that this will lead to further knowledge as to how the brain suppresses traumatic or disturbing memories
Hypnotism is generally used to treat anxiety, insomnia and addictions but now it is hoped it may be able to be used to treat memory problems

The thing that amuses me is that the young think it is only an affliction of the elderly, I've been picking them up on that one for years, it takes but a day or two to pick them up on something they've forgotten and boy do they then go to water. Cruel, but necessary.
