How Computers work - for those that almost know, already

November 4th 2006 05:11
This guide to which I have linked is for those who already know quite a bit about computers and can work their way around a fairly complicated website.

This is not for the faint hearted. Don't be put off by the word Boolean, there's heaps of stuff under the computer tab that will reinforce and extend your computer knowledge.

I'm working on a plan to give a precise basic explanation on how computers work, from the basics on and a brief history of computers.

Do talk about these things with your family and help open up the knowledge of the computer illiterate or modest literate.

Just do what you feel like doing, there's a lot there, much of which you won't want to see but other sections you will definitely want to look at. Once you get going it's a matter of clicking and going back and forth and you may find some need a little help with that.

I think that's enough for this post, sorry no pics with this one, it's all hard work and getting to the point of giving it to you has been hard work for me.

Hey Katyzzz,

This is the first post I've looked at under this blog - I usually see you under your other blog titles. love the name, btw. It could also be "Ms Pain Tart".

Not serious - your writing is wonderful and you are certainly not a pain nor do you seem like a tart. Your computer art is fantastic and keeps me thinking.

Cheers!

What lovely things you say, talking about tarts I used to call myself computart and told people I was a
bit of a tart on the computer.

When I was into Photography I called myself photoart and then I had a cockatiel which I called sweetart

I taught it to whistle happy birthday, and also pop goes the weasel. It used to imitate the telephone ringing and before I knew what was going on I used to rush for the phone and wonder why no-one was there.

Thanks for your visit, 'til we meet again,

Katyzzz - did your cockatiel fly the coup?

My mother found one in Elanora, Qld about 4 years ago, and it could whistle "Pop goes the weasle" and "happy birthday".

Could just be a small world situation...

My friends were minding it for me, about 10 years ago, I don't think they live that long. The husband lost his temper, dropped the cage and away the bird flew.

It was a very beautiful cockatiel, a really good lemon yellow with grey wings, very good looking, I suppose it is possible but not probable, but that is a coincidence, both those songs together. I am in Sydney, so it would have a long way to go. I suppose if it got away it would naturally gravitate to a climate such as Queensland. I'd love to think it survived, even if it might be dead now.

Thanks for that little story.

Oh don't get me started on boolean logic... It is so easy, yet so confusing.

like, implications for instance are simple:

T => T is true

F => F is true

F => F is True.

T => F is flase

then theres the or's

T || F = T

T || T = T

F || T = T

F || F = F

or 'ands'

T T = T

T F = F

F T = F

F F = F

Its all basic, but then they get you to draw logic diagrma this or that, still very simple, but gets kind of mind bending at a certain point...

Ahmed,

That's great,

All I have to remember is T and F and they both equal and are different from each other and the = and inverted =and i'm off and running.

I guess this just all proves that 100=100

That was a very clear, pristine explanation, I got it in one, now all I have to cope with is 0 and binary numbers and I'm set for life and of course get to understand it.

I actually didn't think most of my audience [probably including me] would be up to that, I just wanted to get them up and running irrespective of being confronted first off by a very confronting word.

There is a lot of good stuff there.

I haven't yet managed to find the simple start I was seeking but I'll keep looking. I think most people would do well to check out some of the terminology and what it implies.

I'm very pleased to see you taking an interest, I can see I shall have to be careful what I say, but at least I'm saying it.

Thanks for some extra insight, and the warning of things to come. I guess it all leads somewhere.

Nice to have you on board. You must be exhausted.
