The Hit and Miss of Blogging!

August 7th 2007 07:16
Hit and miss of blogging
Signature Tune

As you'll see from my signature tune this is a very shaky business.

Putting into play some of my own recommendations and, may I say, as well as recommendations from others, I decided I'd do just a few things that might help me get my hits up.

I found the time expended not really very productive but I always restrict the amount of time I spend. However I did get my hits up a little and, enough to say, productively.

I did, alas, find that I did not induce many to stay which was disappointing but not entirely unexpected. A quick flick through the links before my eyes I saw there was one there on which I intended to focus my attention but which I was neglecting, mainly due to lack of interest on Orble and possibly throughout the web but it was an area to which I felt some moral obligation, although, all things considered, not a lot.

By this means I hope next time I get a few more hits more of them will actually stay to read.

Ideally when I attempt to increase hits I should, at the same time, endevour to capture more readers but as one never knows whether one's attempts will be in any way successful, nor in which direction they will lie, this can be a tall order.

Remember I am working on a time budget here which I intend to stick to.

Of course, were I to cater for a more predictable audience, or indeed, improve the standard of my own work I may not have to make as much effort as I do from time to time.

I still maintain CONTENT is KING despite some contrary views expressed on Orble, those views were accompanied by some wonderful recommendations about the attention one should pay to comments but some are more committed than others and they don't mind putting in the time that I am loathe to do.

My stats aren't bad but I don't think they are good given the number of posts I put up, but that is generally to maintain a readership base somewhat divergent from my own interests.

However, there are certain activities I engage in while blogging which give me pleasure and a certain challenge and becoming a good writer for its own sake is not one of them I'd rather spend that energy elsewhere. Nor is it my desire to write long, burdensome posts.

If I improve a little along the way that's well and good and what seems to elude some is that people engage in writing or reading blogs for a variety of reasons.

I hope some of you are gaining from what I tell you or where I lead you and a little appreciation sometimes would not go astray.

And many thanks to those who do express their appreciation or even offer an alternative view.

So the next post I put up will be on both hits and readers in the hope that that approach will yield results for at least some of us.

I always keep my eye on the wider audience not just those who respond on Orble.

If you have anything you would like to suggest please feel free to do so in the comments.

And happy blogging to you all.
