Photography Tips

You need an adequate camera and good lighting. By adequate I mean adequate enough for what you hope to achieve, so for family snaps it is not too expensive at all.

For really good close ups or for distance shots you will need increasingly better equipment, once again depending on what you hope to achieve.

Camera shake results in blurred images caused by not holding the camera steady when taking a photograph.

Don't let your arms stick out. The more control you have over your muscles by holding your arms close to your body the less chance you'll have of experiencing camera shake.

When lighting is difficult you may be able to set your camera in preset mode which can allow a better image.

Lighting for sunrise and sunset can be a little tricky.

Study your camera guide which comes with the camera and learn to use the equipment correctly.

Visit your camera manufacturers website for handy hints and difficulties you may experience with the brand of camera you use.

Get some good photography magazines and have a look at what is required for good composition, made much easier now that digital cameras do the hard work for you.

There are no rules for good photographs, a good photograph will always 'hit you in the eye'

Be prepared to reject most of what you photograph if you are looking on photography as an art not just family shots, although those too can generally be improved as you learn to realize what you need to look for and what backgrounds, intrusions you need to avoid.

Of course photos can be enhanced by computer software but thus far I am staying away from that area.

The more you practice the more you'll achieve and the more aware you will become.

To me, most city shots can be spoiled by the presence of power lines and motor cars, unless, of course you wish to make those your subjects.

Don't forget there are different types of photographs and different types of photography which do require their own special type of approach.

If you're short of subject matter, head for the local park or a beach, you're bound to find things of interest there.

If you really want to get ahead with your photography join a local Society or group, you'll have a parameter there with which to compare your own work and judge your own progression.

Have a clicking day and enjoy it anyway.
