Good for the Brain

Good for the Brain
Signature Tune

Ignorance is bliss. Knowledge is power.

To inform is to do the ultimate great kindness.

To have fun is a blessing.

We all need a sense of humour!

" Your Brain Can Grow Larger with Exercise

Regular exercise makes your brain larger, according to a study from the University of Illinois (Journal fo Gerontology, November 2006). With aging, your brain becomes smaller. This study showed that 60 to 79-year-old men who exercised regularly actually had their brains grow larger. Study participants who did only a stretching and toning program had their brains shrink."

The quote is from the Blog of Dr. Gabe Mirkin M.D.from the link

It just puts a little wisdom and knowledge into your day.

Alzheimer's is not a nice disease. It is UNKIND not to do everything to help prevent it in yourself and in others. It is UNKIND not to acknowledge those who do try.

Hi Katyzzz,

Love the signature tune!!

That's quite impressive about the link between exercising and brain size. Alzheimers is a scary disease, and anything that holds it off should be encouraged!

I understand your point Katyzzz. Im all for growing the brain - When I was younger I believed I could teach people how to use more of our brains since we use less than half. Id just like a bit more memory now...

Don't forget that alcohol can shrink your brain as well.

Informative stuff.

Well I do drink, but they say that when you stop drinking, your brain 'grows' back.

So I have a small pattern of shrinkage, growth, shrinkage, growth, shrinkage..... speaking of all this drinking, now I'm getting thirsty! ; )

Its not true when you stop drinking your brain does not repair itself.....only your liver.....I have test results galore that prove that......the only hope is to start to utilise the other side of your brain X

Miss Nomer,

That's right. The brain can't regenerate. Once you damage it...it's damaged for good. Kind of scary to think about huh?

Some clarification is needed here as Ive done a bit of research talking to medical professionals on this. Your brain DOES actually regenerate - Brain cells are damaged primarily through microwaves, mobile phones, electricity waves and current growth promotant hormones in food and also preservatives are a factor. Certain sugars damage brain cells and after all that you have alcohol and drugs - including caffiene. The brain, like any other organ, regenerates and refreshes dead cells. However, those brian cells usually contain memory information, and that is what is gone forever. You can 'fill up' the new cells with new info but the old memories are gone forever. Even after serious head injuries the brain will regenerate(and I know this from personal experience) but its that old cliche that is actually true - learning new stuff pushes old stuff out of your brain!
