Parents, mostly mums, what are you planning on giving your children for Christmas?
December 16th 2006 04:24
I guess it's a matter of budgets and what stage of development your children are at.
But, for all, Christmas is a very exciting time. Is it time for that first bike, the first real football, a beautiful doll, a fire engine or the first mobile phone. When did your child receive their first watch. The difficult teenagers, don't want it, it's not cool. Or grown up children, the usual pair of socks etc, with surprise and laughter all round.
Just what are you going to give for Christmas? Is there anything unexpected there? Have you discovered the ultimate gift?
Hide the comments you make from the youngsters and the not so youngsters, won't you?
But do tell us, so we'll all know.

But as a Dad i have to come up with two gifts idea. One for my first daughter who is a little over two years old who wants a Hi-5 (A popular Children's show) DVD for Xmas.
And the second is for my other daughter who is just a year old, and have very little idea about what Xmas r gift is. I am planning to buy her a walker, as she just learned to crawl few days ago.

I'm sure the first child will love it, and yes I meant to include Dads but often it's mums who do the most shopping.
As for the little one, if you want to change your mind she'll walk without any aids, hold hand , hang onto the lounge etc as there are some great educational and play toys for that age and the year ahead, remember she's developing all the time, and probably her greatest delight will be the Christmas paper and the fun and laughter.
Neither will be too impressed with clothes, although I'm sure parents would welcome them.
Whatever you do, you sound like a great dad, good on you and enjoy every moment of their development. They don't stay young for long, the years suddenly just melt away.
Have a very happy Christmas day with those two little treasures.

I will consider your advice. Yes they are very important to my life, as a young dad, i may be lousy but i try to always keep some time for them everyday.
You are right about fast moving time, it seems yesterday i was waiting on the corridor of hospital for my first child.

Your little green man reminds me of Boris from Rocky and Bullwinkle.
I bought my daughter how to draw books (she takes after her dad).
I bought my 3 year old son some K'nex building block thingys. It's the only time he sits still and concentrates, when he's building something.
And for the baby, lots of love and hugs. Don't really know what to get him. I have so many toys and books from when the other 2 were babies, I don't really need anything. I'll fashion together a cellophane ball for him. I do remember with the other 2 that the wrapping paper was generally a big hit.
Love & stuff

My children are getting everything they want for Christmas. This is the only year I have done that and probably the only year I will do that. My children are great people and never complain about what they do or don't have. This year I am going to make them in awe of what they do have because of their own goodness and kindness.
This year, it's operation Shock and Awe.

Those are wonderful comments you have given me.
My children are long grown and gone overseas, so you have allowed me to share your Christmas with you.
The excitement and sense of fulfillment comes across and I hope that Christmas always features so highly in our lives.
I'm sure you're all fostering those little and not so little treasures, they will grow up and go their own way, not so much as mine, I hope.
This is a bit like finding presents under the Christmas tree for me. It is truly rewarding.
