Gay Pride defended!
June 23rd 2007 07:18
This vivid image sets its mark. They should not have to be defended but should be left in peace.
Violence is unacceptable and the threat of violence none the less so. It seems to be a real problem there.
"Israeli participants hold up the multi-colored Gay Pride flag during the controversial Gay Pride Parade in Jerusalem, June 21. Some 5,000 participants marched down town Jerusalem and were out-numbered by 7,000 police officers. Other officers were deployed in central Jerusalem amid a heightened security alert to prevent possible protests against the event, which has been the cause of near daily violent clashes between police and members of the Jewish ultra-Orthodox community." Flashes of memories
Last year when I was in England I marched with my cousin in the Brighton Gay Pride Parade.... I know what he has gone through... just to be accepted - and no person should have to do that. We should all be allowed to be who were are.
Where i come from it is actually illegal to be gay - in effect it is illegal to be yourself!
I have one of these flags to remind me of this!

Very strange. Funny how some places do not move with the times, but Israel, there must be massive intolerance, 7000 police for 5000 marchers.
I guess there's a long history that must be taken into account and maybe they shouldn't be so public about it but it seems all protesters are tolerated and why not their march, without threat of violence to them. They don't seem to threaten anyone but are constantly subjected to bashing etc even in Australia.
I don't agree with a lot of their practices, but I don't agree with lots of things but I don't think I should go out and threaten people who don't conform to my points of view, which I must confess have changed over the years.
I could never have envisioned my writing this some years ago.
I hope your cousin is happier now. I think the whole issue is more complex than we realise, but Sydney is one of the gay capitals of the world.
But it was CNN who produced the photograph not me, but I do love those colours as you see by my signature tune.
What awful things happen to people simply because they hold specific beliefs and don't conform to others' ideas.
I was going to say, you can always blog, but as things stand that would be against the law. Rather odd that.

IS IT THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL?
WHAT IS THEIR PROBLEM?
WHY DON'T THEY ALL JUST TAKE A BEX AND HAVE A GOOD LIE DOWN...forever..!!
It seems it will never go away...anti gay sentiment. As soon as you think it is passe, along comes another expert, in Old Testament!
They can all go to hell...in fact a lot of them will be anyway!!
I marched in the second/third Gay Pride March in Sydney, in the 1970's...it wasn't pretty...the streets were lined with people jeering and shouting, some gave support, but between us and the maniacs were a line of cops, who on the first march beat the living hell out of the marchers. It was a protest march then, we had no rights whatsoever, we were illegal, hated, condemned by the courts and the religious. At school, even a hint of being effeminate meant getting bashed and should you complain, bad move in a private christian school, you got flogged with the cane!
Ahhh those were the days...but beware, there are a lot of people out there who would love to turn back the clock, here in Oz, and in The States (USA). The hatred shown to gays and foreigners in Russia is frightening, especially since the cops do nothing, except laugh at the gays being beaten into the ground by skinhead neo nazi scum.
Well, I could rave and rant on about what I think of them, but that would be gving them too much importance!!
They, the haters of this world, deserve the attention and importance of a cockroach, with one response...short, sharp and final!

I just can't understand anyone wanting to reap such vile aggression towards any person on God's earth.
They just don't seem to be able to tolerate difference.
It's all so horrible really.
I'm sorry you had such a bad time at school, it must have been really awful and the Churches practices have been found very wanting in certain instances.
Practice what they preach would be helpful at times. A lot of them run around in frocks anyway,
It seems rather ironic that.
I don't really seem myself as an activist on these issues I just believe violence like this is so very wrong.
Love to you, at least I know you'll accept that, just as it is.

The angst in the world really is a terrible bore, such a waste of useful energy. The exponents of such negativity could put their time to better use, such as cleaning up the streets of garbage, donating time to help the poor and troubled, offering to build houses for free for the needy.
I could go on...as you realize by now..ahem...however, it would be nice to see constructive criticism and ideals replace what is rife in our society.
Anyhoo....chat anon!
