"Memory games can help children resolve attention issues, according to a new Naperville company that sells "working memory training" software.
Cogmed's program features a robot who lets kids choose activities of increasing difficulty and tracks their progress. Cogmed, based in Sweden, recently moved its North American headquarters to Naperville and started certifying psychologists in the area to use the software with their patients.
Justin Severance, an 8-year-old Woodridge resident, is home-schooled and has been struggling in math and reading. Now in the middle of the five-week Cogmed course, he has told his parents that when they ask him to do something, he can remember it longer. And he's starting to resist the urge to jump up and investigate every noise he hears in the next room, said his dad, John Severance"
