Let me out - I'm innocent - it's just my voice I want you to hear
February 24th 2007 09:09
Do you believe in giving an opinion based on a very brief account of information relating to the jailing of a man, which started off, jailed for speaking out about Muslims and ended up jailed for criticising the Egyptian Government, in particular the Prime Minister.
Given that all things stated may be true, I doubt whether a sufficiently detailed and accurate account of all the circumstances has been given to allow a sufficiently considered opinion to be voiced.
Do you know what free speech is? Is it the right to say anything we please under any circumstances, couched in any terms we want, irrespective of particular circumstances.
Gays were mentioned and it is for that reason only that I mention them here.
Does freedom of speech allow us to criticise the homosexual community or, indeed, not to criticise it. How does one justify freedom of speech in these circumstances, or lack of freedom of speech.
As so many here decry any sort of defence of an alternative opinion to their own I am inviting them to debate it among themselves here.
The usual dress code is required but apart from that it is a free for all, and I'll stay out of it.
Let's see some logic and logical thought processes, I would really like that.
I'll just use a couple of images to demonstrate what that other post seemed to be promoting.
No screaming, shouting or pushing please. Please form an orderly line.
Off you go, have fun! Not at my expense, I hope.

Your description of free speech is actually inaccurate,
It isn't the right for you to say anything you want, it is the right for you to express your views to a certain degree provided you do not unjustifiably incite hate amongst groups living in the country. That is why people get jailed for hate speech, thats why we have laws against hate speech.
Your right to free speech (at least in the USA) is revoked when theres a 'clear and present danger' upon the USA and you are deliberate through your freedom are causing more trouble through your views. That was the ruling given in a court by a Judge (who's name escapes me) and is used as a reference point in the US.

Well done, I promised to stay away from this debate but there is just one thing that requires correction.
I did not give a definition, I posed a question to get things going, it is not my view, I am not voicing my view here.
I really do intend to stay away from this but suggesting a question is a definition is a complete misnomer, perhaps I did not put sufficient question marks in.
But the key is, is it, not it is, there's a world of difference there.

Despite the 'is it' the lack of a question mark got me off typing before realizing it was is before it.
Sorry

Flashes of memories
The first one to me looks like a wooden cabin on stilts with a beautiful blue sky and green, grassy meadows stretching infront of a lake that tumbles over the horizon......how serene.....
