"There seems to be some kind of trend in my latest entries; family. Right now though I really don’t want to talk about ancestors, but about direct family.
Let’s face it, we usually take our family for granted, and I have to admit I sometimes do too. I can’t remember the amount of times I argued with my sister or yelled at my parents for something I thought was unfair or anything similar. But should we take them for granted? Of course not! We should be happy and feel lucky, maybe even privileged to have them in our lives.
Today I was watching TV and they showed a program where they went looking for relatives of an adopted girl. She was born in Sri Lanka and adopted by a Dutch family. Now, 19 years later, she had the help of the people of this program to find her family in Sri Lanka. The happiness of those people (and the girl’s) really made me stop and think for a little while about my own family. It’s so normal to have them there, but we never think about how nice it is to know your ‘blood’. There are people in this world that don’t know their family. And whether or not they have a great and loving adoptive family it leaves a certain emptiness in their lives.
So the next time you’re about to do your annoying brother’s head in, fight with your sister or scream at your parents think about how lucky you are actually having them in your life. It really makes all those petty annoyances so trivial…"
