Exercise can help avoid the common cold

Individuals exercising more this winter could cut the number of common colds that doctors and those in pharmacy jobs have to treat.

A team of scientists from Appalachian State University found that fitter people are less likely contract colds than their unfit peers and if they do become ill, their condition is milder.

Researchers discovered that those who said they exercised at least five days per week had 43 per cent fewer sick days due to upper respiratory tract infection than those who did not, according to the study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine.

Dr. David Nieman, the professor who led the study, said: "Exercise is probably the most powerful thing you can do to reduce your sick days this winter."

"This is the best evidence we have thus far that regular aerobic exercise, five or more days per week for more than 20 minutes a day, rises above all other lifestyle factors in lowering sick days during the winter and fall cold seasons."

Meanwhile, the BBC has reported that Medical Research Council findings showed that illnesses such as the common cold could potentially be treated internally by way of antiviral medicines.

oh noooo it sounds like a terrible idea katyzzz!

I use another method;

1: Do not over exert yourself; why walk when you can drive?

2: Limit your exposure to the disease ridden populace (see point 1).

3: Always keep a large fat barrier around your girth, in order to insulate against the cold.

4: When in the supermarket, and someone sneezes, do NOT breathe in, hurredly pass them by holding your breath, or at least breathing through a tissue to avoid their disgusting airborne contagion.

5: Never lick surfaces that others have placed their grubby paws on.

Okay, so that last point is a tiny bit weird, but is for the benefit of tiny tots and the mentally challenged...and me!

cheers

Oh, fog, you're such a trick and such a treat, and when are you publishing your paper on this trendy research?
