Ecstasy will blow your mind - literally!

ecstasy will blow your mind

If you don't want to lose it, don't use it. Get smart, for once in your life, at least, while you still can. Remember [if you still can] it's your life, don't chuck it down the drain. Get real, get a life. Taking this means you don't have one. It is NOT necessary.

The link below provides the following information.

"According to the UK newspaper, The Guardian, a new study has found that ecstasy can cause lasting damage to the human brain, even if the drug is taken for only a short time.

Research on animals has shown that ecstasy (or more specifically, MDMA) can cause long-lasting damage to neurons involved in processing serotonin, a neurotransmitter involved in controlling learning, memory, mood and other functions. There have also been a number of studies involving brain imagery which have indicated that the area of the brain called the hippocampus is particularly affected by the use of MDMA. The hippocampus is believed to be involved in memory.

The study was published in the journal Archives of General Psychiatry and conducted by a team at the University of Amsterdam.

Researchers compared the performance of the subjects before and after they first tried the drug and concluded that even low doses of the drug could have lasting effects on the brain. Despite the low dosage, the researchers found a small but statistically significant drop in the volunteers’ ability to remember words. This test involved reciting a list of 15 words and remembering the list 20 minutes later. Their performance in other tests was not hampered. The authors believed that the main factor contributing to this memory loss was a depletion of serotonin.

Once again, this is one more piece of the jigsaw puzzle that is ecstasy. We know so little about the drug and what effect it will have on users in the future – every bit of information is important.

Remember: if you do not want any negative consequences, do not use the drug and, no matter how many times you have used a substance, never be blasé."

DO LET US HAVE YOUR VIEWS, THERE ARE DRUG USERS ON ORBLE AND SOME OF THEM EVEN BOAST.

It's your life, not mine, why should I care?

It's interesting.

I find is frustrating the caffine guzzline, alchohol driking, niccotine smoking, antidepressent popping panadol using, cough medicine drinking 'anti-drug' culture where the difference between good or bad is if somebody has decided to to list it as lagal or not.

However E is a reletively new drug (in relative terms) and what information can be gleaned about its use is certainly valuable.

That said, where all claims about such an emotional issue as drug use tend to be pushing one adgenda or another its difficult to find to objective truth.

The problem lays at the feet of the drug user and/or addict, not with the drug itself.

However, it is true to say there are more drugs coming onto the market that are less known in their long term side effects and some may be permanently harmful, depending how they are used, such as ecstasy. (Often severe dehydration accompanied by continued repeat dosage at a dance/rave party combine to cause more severe damage to the user's health).

I am a recovering addict alcoholic, I have been clean and sober over 13 years, (since August 6th 1993).

The statistics show that all the illegal drugs put together account for 2% of the overall drug harm/death/mayhem stats. (last I saw them 13 years ago in a detox clinic)

The rest is made up from alcohol and tobacco, maybe one could include some antidepressants there, but the drug companies tend to keep those statistics to themselves by generously paying out of court settlements.

The biggest killer of all is tobacco and alcohol is second. However, having said that, just because one may use alcohol and/or tobacco/antidepressants etc etc, does not mean that person's opinion is lessened in merit or worth.

Addicts/alcoholics are often born that way, some become so due to terrible circumstances, like war, few I would say result from merely peer group pressure. At least I have not met any in AA or NA.

While in detox, I was amazed to see that the heroin users recovered quickest and with best mental/physical health, whereas the pill poppers were the longest in recovery and by far the sickest. This was a surprise to me, as listening to all the whining by junkies (heroin users) in NA meetings led me to believe they had it worst, no, just their egos have the worst time of it, getting back to reality and finding out they are just egotistical pains in the arse who use their family and friends and rob everyone else! Ok, so I don't like junkies, my fault!

I have often wondered whether it is better to decriminalise all drugs, and just let nature take its course. Have a government shop where the junkies can get their fix, pot smokers etc, and so the robberies and connected violence would abate. Only the addicts will suffer, as it should be. Ok, so their familes will too, but at least it won't involve such huge cost and time wasted by governments and police.

But, the cynic in me says, that will never happen, because there is too much corruption in our world to allow it, too many 'pillars of society' making too much money out of the misery of others.

Anyhoo....I feel slightly better now...after that rant....and thanks for the comment Katyzzz, on my site, I appreciate it. I am working through a lot of emotional pain right now, due to the loss of my friend, and as for the snow, all but gone, however, there is still a small patch clinging on out the back, a little like me I guess!

Brenton and fog,

I am just so pleased with your lengthy responses, the more that can be brought out the better.

I won't say anymore other than that I really appreciated your contributions.

If I were to start commenting I'd have to write a book, personal accounts and the views of the young are very valuable indeed, thank you both.
