DETOX BRAIN DAMAGE

From guardian.co.uk - please use link at top

The family of a woman who suffered brain damage following a "detox" diet yesterday warned of the dangers of such regimes. Dawn Page received more than £800,000 in an out-of-court settlement after a diet in which she increased her water intake and decreased the amount of salt she consumed.

Page, 52, a mother of two, from Faringdon, Oxfordshire, began vomiting severely soon after starting the "hydration diet" in 2001. She was left with epilepsy and a brain injury affecting her memory, concentration and ability to speak normally. She gave up her job as conference organiser and her family says she will not work again.

DO TAKE CARE, THERE ARE A LOT OF QUACKS OUT THERE

Hey Katyzzz people should be very careful about trying diets, I don't think diets work anyway there are way too many dangerous ones on the market.

Learning to change ones eating and exercise habits to a more healthier way is best. I have tried dieting and lose a lot of weight and then gain it back in no time.

I do agree with you Lester, but this wasn't even a diet, it was reduce salt and drink lots of water, the consequences were drastic, it was obviously advised by a charlatan to a desperate woman, but how terribly sad. Better to be fat, and to rely on regular medicine, not some crank's ideas.

Good nutrition and walking is the way to go and the obese may need medical assistance.

Spooky, I've done detox diets and other regimens to help free my body of heavy metals, it helped a little. I wonder about the back story . . .

Take care my friend, a lot of these things require a lot of faith.

A placebo can also help.
