What does writing do for the brain?
September 16th 2008 21:12
The complexity of the human brain is far more interesting than a computer. In this day and age when computers take up so much of our time and we have such a dependence on them for every day livelihood, I know that exercising the brain whether through reading, writing or interacting with others, should never take second stage to the computer. Unfortunately, as a society, I know that’s what the era of doing more with less has turned this society into and I wished that would never end.
Computers are fun to work with and can enhance my creativity. Yet they can never be what turns my creative switch on. I’m hopeful that day never occurs.

This is an extract from the Abilene Reflector Chronicle, Kansas, refer - Really Long Link
It's author, Dave Bergmeier, discusses his daily writing activities during the week, he talks of
In candidness I enjoy keeping busy through writing. I’m not sure I am the better for doing all of this -- while understanding it goes with the territory.
Turning on the “creative juices” is not the easiest part of the job. There are times when the juices come back, they inspire me to pick up the pace and then the words miraculously flow. A part of me, even as confident as I am about writing stories, whether simple or intricate, always in the back of my mind worry there will be a day when it will not be possible to turn the “fountain of inspiration” back on. Perhaps that’s also a self-preservation mechanism, enough to keep me humble to know that the gift of writing is something to appreciate.

So, apparently he is well aware of what writing does for his brain, but how about YOU, what is it that you think writing does for your brain?

Writing has always been something I loved doing, whether I am good at it or not, doesn't matter as much; what it makes me feel after is the relief I can never get enough of.
I love to write, just would be nice to also be able to get some form of earning while writing for pleasure though.. usually I write only for my personal consumption.
