Do brain games work? - never too young.
December 19th 2007 23:23
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -
You might have noticed commercials touting Brain Age 2 as a way to improve your memory. It’s a game for Nintendo DS that promises to keep your brain sharp.
But do they really work?
As with anything which taxes the brain, there must be a positive result, whether the results actually do what they claim is a matter of debate.
But rest assured they are very popular and there has been a mass response to the advertising.
There's a theory that increasing your brain reserve will reduce your risk of getting Alzheimer's disease.
The way to increase your brain reserve is to do something which stimulates your brain cells by doing something different.
But the right areas of the brain need to be stimulated and that is where there is room for debate.
Medical experts think Alzheimer’s may start decades before it shows up.
Games like Brain Age would be good for people in their 30's and 40's to do, even without concrete evidence.
And my recommendation is a subscription to Lumosity, that way one avoids the cost of the DS.
Maybe both if you're really keen.

Yep - keep challenging yourself - cause you know what happens to things when they spend too long in the cupboard.
