Speaking of diaries - digital or otherwise

Inspired by my previous post or perhaps by the changing weather, for yesterday was seethingly, blissteringly HOT and to-day it is not, to-day it is refreshingly cool, cloudy and overcaste with promises of rain which so far have not been delivered. And yesterday was Melbourne Cup Day, an all too shocking experience, one we have not seen for a long time, it was thrilling and exciting, the fashions were spectacular with hats guaranteed to not do anything towards protecting their wearers from the relentless rays of the cancer producing sun, but adding several centimetres of height, a blessing for the short, a dilemma for the tall and to-day is my son's birthday, he was my first born and never has the thrill of giving birth left me.

It's the greatest thing one can ever experience and in my mind there was only one woman who had ever done it, despite the fact that throughout the world there are new borns entering this sphere of life every minute of the day and night, despite the trend to killing off healthy offspring before they ever get to see the light of day, while continuing to breed prolifically with more and more birth or other defects appearing and being nurtured, a society gone extremely wrong.

But I digress, I thought as this is a blog I might surely attempt to write one, and the form it should take would be a diary.

In my diary I shall be very selective, be it that my mind continuously wanders as you have already witnessed.

I want to write about nice little incidents set distincly apart from the tedium and grind of our everday lives.

Thwarted in my desire to do what I want to do with my life and being quite resistant to other suggestions and influences I always feel encouraged by the nice things which happen in a day.

Yesterday on my way out I bumped into our local Church Minister and we exchanged some pleasant and insightful conversation for the very small part of our short shared journey.

That was unexpected and he is "oh, so very nice". Every girl should seek out such a husband, he is, incidentally, married and has three children, all boys, a lovely family and the Church values certainly show.

Later on in the day after enjoying the events of the Melbourne Cup on my giant TV digital screen, and doing so alone as the local party to which I had been invited the previous year, saw fit to exclude me this time.

However I was suitably rewarded by a slice of superb Pavlova, delivered, a little sheepishly by one of the "only" seven attendees, which , having eaten far too much by way of celebration already, I sat contentedly and scoffed down my allowed portion, which was really so very delicious.

To-day, no such rewards, to-day we're almost back to serious business, but back to yesterday.

I made my way to the station for the second time that day, intending to walk from the next station around a lovely park and perhaps a bit beyond to put in my walking time, I always like to seek out some variety.

While I sat and waited for the train I gathered there was some delay and having waited patiently for some further period of time, I came to the realization that a local walk would now be preferable as I could spend more than half my allocated time just sitting and waiting for trains.

So off I went and chose some different streets from the day before. It was pleasant walking, even though my legs hurt and it was not long before I came across a young puppy, one of the Cavalier King Charles spaniel variety. It looked frightened and had its rather long tail pulled down between its legs and while it sniffed vigorously at some surrounding trees it was very much in the submissive mode, protecting itself, it would seem.

It was a real cutey and I bent down to help wheupon it looked dangerously close to going on the road from which I managed to dissuade it.

Its frantic sniffing continued, and when a well dressed business gentleman passed by, it made off happily behind him but he was not at all interested in little dogs and their problems, so pup abandoned its pursuit and was left with me.

With some encouragement it now came over to sniff at my fingers and commenced to lick my hand lovingly. I was increasingly concerned by its lost status, and wondered just how far it had wandered.

I looked at the surrounding homes with gates closed uninvitingly, wondering which I should enter to ask them to look at the dog's tag, which I hoped would bear a telephone number but not a soul could be seen.

After passing several houses I came across a very large new one, spotlessly presented, every grass blade in place and two cars parked tidily in the driveway.

The little dog paid some more attention and I tried the side gate, which I could not open, so when the dog tried squeezing itself back in through the narrow bars I went up to the central gate which opened quite easily and the puppy trotted inside.

At the same time a young teenaged girl opened the front door and dashed outside. I briefly filled her in on the story, she gave me a nice smile, just looked down at the dog, a little relieved, but made no attempt to pick it up.

I continued on my way, hoping they would pay the little dog more attention in future so the same thing did not happen again. It was a confused little puppy. I would have loved to have picked it up in my arms and cuddled it, as its owner should have done, but then again that house showed little emotion, but was scrupulously well maintained.

I arrived home happy to watch one of my favourtie animal shows, and that was my good deed done, and a happy experience.

And so ends page 1 of my diary.
